Subwoofer problem....

I've posted on here before about my subwoofer trouble. It makes a strange noise (almost like a record scatching) on powering up coming out of stanby. At no other point during music or playback is it heard. It is a JBL E250P subwoofer and is not under warranty. I tried a cheater plug and it did not work. I -emailed JBL and this was the response:

"Good morning and thanks for your inquiry. I am sorry to hear of the
trouble with your subwoofer. From what you are describing to me it
sounds like the amplifier is spiking every time it receives an incoming
signal therefore triggering the unit to come out of standby. This noise
could sound almost like a chirping sound....This can be repaired by any
authorized JBL service center and I have attached a link to our locator
to find the closest repair center in your zip code area."

It is not worth it to me to have it serviced because it works perfectly fine. But, it annoys me to the point where I would like to try to fix it myself if it is easy enough. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this problem and fix it? Thanks in advance for any responses.

I would suggest setting it on fire and buying this PSB I have for sale

It may be feedback being amplified, just like they said. That is most likely a board level fix.

I would love to buy that sub! Problem is btween my duaghter's b-day 2 weeks ago, my wife's b-day yesterday and christmas coming up - No can do!!! If it is still available and I have the funds after doing some Christmas shopping, I will let you know.

Is there an option of taking it off standby and just leaving it on?

My sub amp has "on" and "auto-on"... I consider 'auto-on' sort of like standby. Problem is, the threshhold of the input is above the signal level, in other words, it doesn't 'auto-on'. So, I just leave it 'on' all the time.

I don't know if that would help you, but you could see if you have an 'on' position, and try that.

Problem solved twofold:
1. I usually cable tie all the cords to keep them neat and tidy. After I took off the cable ties, the problem noise went away. I guess I should think twice about the cable tie idea, huh?
2. I bought the PSB subwoofer from Mark and the thing rocks. (Thanks again, Mark).
