This is the unit I purchased less than a week ago hoping to intergrate it into my H/T but due to not being able to rid of the ground loop problem, it must go. I made the decision that for what ever reason, I would let one of my unit's (990 or the 84) go within a week. Other than 3 of the fiber optic doors missing, this unit is flawless. It has the latest firmware update already installed and I have the receipt from where it was installed. I had no handshake issues with any of my components it just for the life of me, can't get rid of the hum/buzz in the speakers. The unit was moved upstairs and replaced the Denon 3805 I have installed and I had no problems what so ever with humming/buzzing, it has something to do with the projector in my room which I can't figure out. Unit comes with all accesories (both remotes, i-pod cable, setup mic, manuals) and original box. Asking price for the unit is SOLD to Disneyjoe7 within CONT. US. If you have any questions, please fell free to PM me.

For the sheer hell of it, unplug the cable or dss from the system and s if the buzzing goes away. I'm betting your problems lay in a poor dss or cable grounding problem. If the Projector is the problem, I bet if you plug the receiver and projector in the same circuit, your problem goes away.
I'd hate to see you sell such a nice piece.
On the flip side , thats a fantastic deal for that receiver.Dan

Ok I'm like 99% on this, just one question. Would this be an upgrade over an Onk 898? I know it has HDMI 1.2 input which I don't have now, but do I lose my pure audio 2 channel mode?

I think it would be a definate upgrade over the Onkyo, as far as the pure audio 2 channel mode, all I know is I was quit impressed with the way the Elite handled 2 channel sources. Here are the specs in case you haven't looked already.

This is a great unit. I just bought one two weeks ago (used) and couldn't be happier. The LFE software issue has been pretty well resolved by pio, and was not an issue for me. This is my fifth Pio Elite AVR, and the best to date. I bought it to get HDMI support for HD audio from my BD and HD DVD players. The HD audio on these discs really makes a noticable difference.
One trick; if the bass is not as pronounced as you like, you can press the Video select button at the same time as the Power button to get a +10db boost in bass. The function toggles on and off each time you do it, and the display will indicate which is which.
LOTS of info about this AVR and the LFE "bug" on a dedicated thread at avsforum.com.
BTW, I paid $800 locally and thought I got a great deal. $700 is a steal.My 7.4.4 DIY 4k Home Theater:

Thanks for the info, I look forward in getting it. It should be here today, still need to pick up some HDMI cables as I only own 1 now. Also need a iLink cable if I hook up my avi79 player that way, still confused a little on that one. And yes $700 was a steal I think also.

I have a DV-47ai that I have connected via an i-link cable. Works fine. However, your player may output audio via HDMI (I'm almost sure it will) so you can use that as an option. I would guess that the sound quality over HDMI is no better than i-link, but I haven't done a comparison, obviously. I'd be curious at the results if you do an A-B comparison, since your configuration should allow it.
My 47ai does not have an HDMI output, so the i-link is my best option. HDMI audio will also work with other manufacturers' players, while i-link only works for Pio Elite. I-link is an IEEE 1394 protocol, but Pio and Denon (Denon Link) have embedded code to make it proprietary. (And they wonder why no one bought it!)
BTW, a cheap way to get an i-link cable is to use a Firewire or link cable from a digital camera. You can pick one up cheap at a PC store, camera store, or some WalMarts. They are a LOT cheaper than the branded cables, and work just as well.
In any case, SACDs, DTS encoded CDs, and DVD audio discs sound great through the i-link, if you use it.My 7.4.4 DIY 4k Home Theater:

I think i-Link will work for SACD's but HDMI will not work for SACD's... My thinking anyway I need to test that for sure.

REGARDS SNOWWell, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all -
Ok got home unpacked it Beautiful packaging nicely done. Love your plain paper outer covering, just 1st class. Now I think the I-link cable should be 4 pin but does it matter if 6 pin?
I will find out tomorrow about this hum business, but if caused by a HDMI cable I won't know as of yet as I only have 1 one hand right now.

Glad it arrived okay. As far as the HDMI humm, I'm pretty sure you will be fine. Like I said, when I took the unit upstairs and swapped it out with the 3805 I have upstairs and hooked up all the HDMI cables from the satellite and the 3910, the humm was NOT there. It has something to do with my room downstairs just don't have the time and the money to track it down right now. BTW, glad you liked my packing job, there's nothing I hate more than when I come home and there is a package on the porch telling the whole neighborhhod what I ordered.
