Any one heard this new 4th generation system from Yamaha?
By boss was looking to get a surround system for his girl friend's new 60" tv and I suggested the Polk sound bar system. He listened to both and was blow away by the yamaha. No wires.
Any opinions?

It sounds good in a small room but doesn't work well in large ones. I'd bet the Surround Bar 50 would be better demo.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

They have a small room. They will also get the sub with it.

Haven't hear the new YSP4000 yet, but if it's like the YSP1100, I definitely prefer the SurroundBar. The Yamaha appeals to some people though because you don't need a separate receiver so no cables going from the receiver to the speaker bar. YSP's also aren't designed for corner placement of open rooms.

Probably not the loudest, but appears to dig very deep for a unit in it's price range."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Thanks everyone. I strongly recommeded he get the 4000 system and also get the recommended Yam sub to match it.
You hate to recommend something that doesn't make the boss look good. -

The Yammie 4000 is for my boss's ex wife who hates wires and complexity.
The polk requires a reciever. The Yammie has a mic and auto sound set up and simple connections and sounds good.
Done deal I think. -
I like the built-in DSP and amplification as it certainly opens up a new market of consumers. It wouldn't suprise me if you saw something like that from Polk at some point.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? The SoundBar is the preferred unit to use when you have an irregular shaped room. Yhe Yammies use the walls so are best suited to a theatre room with no windows and four equal walls. So, if you live in a box without windows go the Yammie:)

Which Yamaha sub? If it is a YST-FSW100, DON'T LET HIM GET IT. They are absurdly bad. Be careful of any the subs with small boxes. They don't support much volume at all and distort and rattle a lot.
