Consonance: Turandot CDP

This thing looks gorgeous . . . although I'm sure not everyone's cup of tea. Has anyone heard it? I'm thinking of buying one for $900. Is that a fair price? I am a little leary about a Chinese company as I normally prefer USA or UK designed stuff.
Should I stay away from Chinese stuff? The company appears to be quite reputable as they have garnered many awards.
The player itself was reviewed favorably in 6moons.

That appears to be a lot of player for $900.The review indicates they are using the Burr Brown OPA 627 opamps in the analog stage. These are pricey parts(for opamps)and arguably the best available.Testing

Chi-fi is hit or miss. If they have stateside support I'd feel confident buying. If not you'd be taking a risk on it ending up as a $900 paperweight.

These guys appear to sell a lot of Consonance.

But I have my eye on the CA 840C or an iVinyl.

The CA840C is amazing. I've heard it. But, I have an urge to get something that looks exotic. The CA is an excellent option though. You can use it as a standalone DAC for other digital sources as well.

I think the CA can be used as a Dac also. I have not heard it yet but liked the 640c. The Con does look cool. I plan to get an 840 and paint it to look like a candy cane -
You will have State side support on that unit. SolidSqual's post is the new Consonance importer and my dealer is impressed by him.Modwright SWL 9.0 SE (6Sons Audio Thunderbird PC with Oyaide 004 terminations)

Midnite, how do you like your Consonance gear? What's the build like? Do you feel it is up to snuff with USA and UK gear?
-
I dig Consonance gear and have owned a few pieces but that's hideous. It's nice to know the guts are worth looking at.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I can't say that I have compared it to a lot of US or UK gear. I have listened to some other European gear as that is mostly what my dealer carries, and it holds up well at a fraction of the price.
I do find that Consonance cd players are more laid back than say the Jolida for example. So if in your face dynamics is what you are looking for they probably aren't for you but if smoothness and analog sounding is what you like then they may be the ticket. Although, I have not heard the Turnadot specifically so I cannot comment on it. However, I love my MKII player. I have also heard the linear 120 and would have no trouble listening to that all day. I am one of those guys that distates digital edge.
As far as build quality I don't think there is a problem here. These things are very solidly built pieces of gear.

Hey don't bash my CD player! It's an icon of the Forbidden City.

No issues with build quality in my travels.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I'm going to buy wallpaper of the same pattern and have myself a disappearing act.
The analog sound is a plus for me. I'd love to get as close to vinyl as possible. -
Well, if that's the case....see you on the other side when that isn't fun anymore.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
