I was curious, who here, besides me, actually reads? Personally, I love to read but after talking with folks, I've come to the conclusion that I'm the only person I know that reads.

The conversation has come up lately as 'The Count of Monte Cristo' is one of my all time favorite books and NO ONE I know has read it.

So, I'm curious, any of you out there read?

I read short and sweet stuff, meaning if it takes longer than the average stay on the crapper I don't touch it. No time or attention span for long reads. I'm very lazy when it comes to that.

I like to read, but my neurotic obesssion w/switching gear in search of the mythical perfect sound at a low price for a smaller room has taken up a ridiculous amount of my time over the last year and a half. Now that I've decided to get the DS7200 & not mess with it any more, maybe I'll have time to read.

I'm currently reading Good To Go - an autobiography of sorts by Harry Constance - a decorated Navy Seal from the Vietnam era.

On the ****, I read Motor Trend, Cycle World, American Rifleman, and American Hunter. I devour magazines.

I have read The Count Of Monte Cristo. I have also read a bunch of philosophy and great works of literature, including Plato, Aristotle, Camus, Machiavelli, Nietzsche, Goethe, Voltaire, Dante, Austen, Hamlet, Aeschylus, Descartes, Locke, Freud, and Tzu.

My two favorite modern books are Iron & Silk and The Laughing Sutra, both by Mark Salzman.

I enjoy reading, but I haven't been doing it as much lately. I guess I go through phases.

I usually read books on physics, meta-physics, psychology, philosophy, mathematics, the occult, magick, you get the picture.

Oh yeah, there's that whole computer thing and hi-fi as well. :p

Thanks for reminding me, I've got some good stuff I need to catch up on....

If you enjoyed THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO (and the other great books in the Dumas trilogy, THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK and THE THREE MUSKETTEERS) then do not -- DO NOT -- see the current version now on DVD. It blows.

Whoops. Weekend. I'm outa hea. Maybe next week we'll talk books.

    PS-
I just finished reading Stanley Karnow's excellent history of Vietnam, and now I'm reading another of James Lee Burke's excellent "Dave Robichoux" detective novels, "Purple Cane Road."

    Mantis -

Iron & Silk is an autobiographic account of Mark Salzman's trip to China to teach college students over there and among other things meet, befriend, and study martial arts under Master Pan. It is an excellent read - highly recommended, even if you have no interest in the martial arts. Although I did study karate for many years in my early twenties.

They also turned the book into a movie and Pan stars as himself.

I read Goodnight Moon three times today. Go Dog Go and Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed are also daily readers.

I used to read alot, but can't afford a great deal of quiet time and don't want to spend 4 days/chapter.
