All of a sudden the speakers are outputting sound at a higher pitch than normal. All voices sound like chipmunks talking. I am not sure how this happened. The Polk speakers on this computer are pretty generic; the device is Realtec AC97 Audio. There is no equalizer and no way to change the settings except volume. Has this happened to anyone before? Any ideas? Appreciate the help - this is my boss's computer and when she gets back from her business trip and found out I f*&ked up her sounds she might be a little perturbed.

Is it all the sound coming from the computer or just from certain programs? (Like windows media player).

Chances are you could have just sped up the playback speed on the program... that'll make it sound like a chipmunk pretty easily.

Set some traps. Chipmunks love acorns.

Seriously I think you audio playback has been changed. The audio is the right speed but wrong octave.

If not... right click the speaker icon in startup menu on bottom right corner of your desktop and click adjust audio properties. Go to sounds and choose Windows default. Then check the uadio setting. Then apply and close.

well the nut traps didn't work, and neither did that, but I found the system restore on this comp. and rolled it back. Looks like that did the trick. Thank Jeezus for idiot proofing.

some sound cards have software that lets you add tweaks to the audio.. sounding like chipmunks is one of them. ;)
