Placement of Center Channel with a Flat TV?

I know I'm not the only one with this problem, but does anyone have any inputs on how I can place my center channel speaker under or over my flat panel TV?

I have a Csi40 and the 40" Samsung LCD TV. Right now, I have the TV on top of the center channel speaker. It seems to work well, but sort of looks ghetto. I wondered if any of you have incorporated shelves or even elevated the TV a bit and placed the center channel behind the TV?

Thanks...
~Dan

I have TV stand with three shelfs. First level is my receiver and separate amp, second level my HD-DVD player, third level my center speaker.

Lot of different way to go about it, but I think this way is best. Some move their TV to the back of the stand and put the center speaker in front if it. Guess that works okay if the speaker is shorter than the TV's stand, but still looks less than perfect.

If you don't want to replace your TV stand, another option is to get a shelf / stand that sits on top of your TV. That's what I did, and am happy so far with it.

I used the Omnimount CCH1 - here is a link to the mfr. website.

I should take pics sometime and post them in the system showcase, just haven't gotten around to doing it yet ...

Thats for a big screen TV, where the brackets have a spot to rest. There really isn't anything on the market for these new LCDs or Plasmas that sit on stands.

I just posted a similar question in another thread here. That product would work if the "legs" extended down 2 feet so they could rest on the same surface as the TV. Perhaps one could find a way to extend the legs via some kind of workaround?

Don't worry -- you'll grow accustomed to the ghetto look. I have mine the same way.

    LOL ...

Dvran: Could you post some pictures? I can envision your tv on top of the center speaker but dont understand what the center speaker itself is on ...

BDI Furniture has some interesting solutions. Mostly being able to hide your center channel in the cabinet immediately below your TV. Check them out, link below. If you post a pic it may be a bit more helpful for us ... at least us guys who need pictures to stimulate us, while women will do with romance novels and words :D

Agreed, mine isn't quite so ghetto, but I do have the speakers just sitting in front of the TV.

if you have a wall behind your TV, get a simple shelf or do something with angle brackets.

Here's a pic of my setup. I already know it's a little blurry, crooked, etc. What can I say, I suck at taking pictures.

I used one of those shelves with the feet on top of my Samsung DLP. The TV started to sag just the tiniest bit from the weight...that was enough for me to say no center channel on top of the tv. I have the CS400i - much like you. It's big and heavy plus from that Angle I'd want to angle it down to the listening are which is a risky proposition in itself.

As a solution I removed the shelves on my TV stand and built my own shelf at the right height and have it angled up towards the listening position. It works pretty well for me.

Good luck, I struggled with a solution I could live with for quite a while and my first solution wasn't the one I stuck with.

    You'll figure it out.

I too am struggling as to where I should locate my center channel speaker (RM6700 system). I currently have it located on top on my stand in front of the TV (see attached picture). This seems to work OK, but I would like to get a bigger center channel speaker, thus the current location would not work. I have seen a number of posts about the Omni mount system. but it seems to have a number of problems. It seems that some people have had a problem where the mount actually fell off the TV.

Has anyone tried the Vantage Point AX2LSB01-B mount with a AX2WL01-B flat plate mount. It is supposed to handle speakers up to 15 pounds. Here is the link for this mount:

Although i dont have an lcd anymore i still was faced with a similar issue with my new tv. The shelfs on my tv stand were to small to fit my cs400. So i went to Home Depot, bought some brackets and screws.

Found some left over wood sitting around and painted it black. Cut out a notch in the back for the wire to run through. From the front its completely invisible (see pics in signature too).

Moral of the story, DIY is cheaper, easier, and you can customize everything!
