pink noise is great for testing purposes but I break in my drivers the old fashioned way, listening to music.
    That is fine!
Takes a lot longer, but does the same thing, eventually.
I am contemplating several changes to my speakers.
I must be sure my new tweeters are well broke in to ascertain the effectiveness, or lack of the changes.

If you listen hard enough you can hear people talking in China thru your SDA's.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Hello H9 :)

Speaking of Nelson Pass, I have a local guy wanting to swap me a Nakamichi PA 7 MK 2 Stasis amp for my Luxman M 117, even up.

Don't think I am gonna though.

The Luxman M 117 is a good amp too, really nice on Horns.

What does this, beyond name dropping, have to do with the price of tea in China?

Go ahead and listen to a speaker that rolls off at 2khz......I'll bet it sounds like **** regardless of what anyone says where the music is.

Look, I've been reading some of your posts....we get it. You own a lot of gear. You consider yourself an industry insider. Whooptee-freakin'-do. The whole condescending tone to your posts just tends to rub people the wrong way.

You listen to pink noise, I prefer music. C'est la vie.

Heiny's signature contains a quote from Nelson Pass.
I was offered a Nelson Pass design, a Nakamichi PA 7 MK 2 in an even up trade for my Luxman M 117.
I wanted to get Heiny's opinion on it, since he seemed to be into Nelson's designs more then I am.

I have NO speaker that "rolls off at 2K".
If you read my post about fundamentals and harmonics, you can see that harmanics always roll off in comparison to the amplitude of the fundamental.

Yes, I do own a lot of gear, more then some, but certainly not near as much as some AK and Polk Forum members do.
And, I do NOT like several things I own either.
What you see as "bragging" I see as informing those who do not know me that I have an item.
I have saved several people from making a BIG mistake on buying a "highly regarded" item because they asked me about it first.

How shall they know I own something, if I do not tell them ?

Like any audiophile, I have my opinions, and I am adept at expressing them.
    I WELCOME a good debate.
I was warned about this place before I came here.
The Polk forum unfortunately has a bad reputation among SOME on the Internet.http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?p=1189126&highlight=polk+forum#post1189126
This is NOT "new" to me.
    I am a Ham.
On some Ham Radio Frequencies, there are groups of Hams who have "hung out" together for years.
They welcome SOME "outsiders", or "gang up" and attempt to make other newcomers to "their frequency" feel less then welcome for whatever reason.

I am new to this forum, and my ideas are sometimes different from the "status quo".
Nothing new to a Ham like me, all in a days work.

IOW, I will not be intimidated, and I ain't going away.

Respect me, and I will respect you, that's how it works, that's how I roll.

And BTW, do NOT put words in my mouth either.
I use Pink Noise to break in tweeters and speakers, NOT to listen to.

If anyone is "condescending" it is YOU with your statement you "listen to music, not Pink Noise"

If you think about it, there is probably a reason why there isn't a speaker limited to that bandwidth....for **** and grins, cut the leads to the tweeter on your 801's and see how it sounds, I would imagine it's crossed over in that neighborhood.

We've got a bad rap on AK? Boo-hoo. I've been on AK, they have thier share of issues too. I think that, like here it's all on how you approach it.

Anyhow, I'm just trying to clue you in why you might be getting static....but I can see that you are smarter than me too.

Maybe I'll just have to try that ignore button after all.

The reputation of SOME on this forum is well known.
Like the AK guy said "It is giving Polk a bad reputaton" and may make some avoid Polk products.
IMHO, Polk needs to get control of this forum with moderation.
I find this place to very much be an "old boys click".
I am a strong enough person that I don't give a flying **** IF I am "accepted" or not by the guys here.
The more timid might avoid this place, and the Polk Product altogether ?

So Chris, do you want to fight, or post?

We can do this the easy way, or the real easy way, either of which is fine.

This is the most ludicris thing I've ever heard. People avoiding a brand because of an on-line chat board.

Avoid Polk because they are timid

H9, assume a person come here as a prospective Polk customer, and the "old boys" open up on him.
That will leave a bad taste for all Polk Product.

When people cop an attitude, stuff can happen.

Many might not stand up as I have done, but MAY decide to "vote with their wallets" and actually Boycott Polk because they perceive Polk permits the crap that goes down here to happen ?

Get Real H9, us vintage guys ain't gonna make or break Polk.
What do we buy, maybe a few tweeters.
MUCH of our stuff is bought on EBay, or from each other, or used.

Lets say a guy is contemplating on buying some new LSI 9's, he comes here and explains he plans on having 20 foot speaker runs with a receiver.
Next thing you know he gets slammed because he don't have a Alpha and silver wire with Cardas everything.

NOT everyone believes in Silver Wire and separate amps.

I have zillions of separates, and can tell you I have some receivers that will give much of my separates a run for money.

I think we all need to be more tolerant of each others point of view.

IF we disagree, why not substantiate our beliefs, instead of flaming people ?

Look man, it's not your point of view. It's your attitude. 98% of the folks that come here get along fine. The odd few that don't...it just may be because of thier attitudes.

I'd say we have quite a few regular contributors and a number of folks that drop in and out....I mean, it's not like there is a secret handshake or anything and hell we even disagree with each other. The point is, most of us don't turn it into a dick measuring contest...which was my whole point to start with. You seem to project the attitude that your list of gear entitles you to credibility and it just doesn't work that way.

    Anyhow, food for thought.

We get it, can we get back to the original topic or are you having trouble getting off your soapbox.

My GOD, I can't believe it. One minute you say I don't want to fight and then you start fighting again.

Here is an idea. Stop name dropping every other post. Stop trying to seem like you are God and we should worship you because you know this guy or that. It gets so old. I could use names all the time if I wanted. Doesn't mean I know them but I am sure I could sound convincing. I was telling Jay Leno the other night when we were tuning my Ferrari about this board. Did anyone fall for it???

You don't seem sicere when you do it. That is why people attack you.

Nice research on Pink Noise. I would never do it myself which is fine. And even though someone "attacked you" it doesn't matter. If you think it was the right thing to do cool. It is a public forum. We make jokes we attack what we feel is strange or stupid, we call out fakes. We also have lots of info we can share with each other. Good with the Bad.

BTW KA7NIQ, I find some of your posts interesting but when you think anyone disagrees or "Attacks" you attack just as much as anyone else here.

So you are just as bad as them.

^^ I think most rational people realize that Polk nor anyone else can control what goes on here as long as it's within reason. Bickering and yelling and slight name calling while not always the best scenario is pretty tame here.

What you are proposing is for this place to be like Audioholics where a very select few get to play God and tell YOU and ME what we can say and not say, how to phrase it and what products are good and bad and most of all, be a blind sheep that follows what the GODS over there prescribe to. One deviation and you're gone.

Never seen anyone who comes on here with a level head have any problems buying and enjoying Polk products. Those that take thing personally and want to keep picking and digging usually have a problem that goes far beyond whether or not they decide to buy Polk products.

It is what it is, and that's the way it is.

You have me ALL wrong, you really do.
Shall I change my signature, or stop mentioning what I own ?
WHAT if someone might be considering buying what I already own ?
How can they ask me about it if they do not know I own and have experience with it ?

Reviewers constantly reference items against other components they own, am I not allowed to say the SRS 2's are not anywhere near as transparent as my RM 40's or 801's ?

Can I not say I have extremely powerful subs that will easily overwhelm a room unless the level is almost exact to support that I find the remote subwoofer volume on the "lowly" Parasound P/SP preamp useful ?

Can I not say I USED to own both a Krell and Cal Audio labs transport, and found I could not hear a difference between any of them and a cheap JVC CD Jukebox using an external DAC ?

I mean NO harm, did NOT come here to pick a fight either.

I just do not like being messed with.

Disagree with me, and make your case, we do not have to always agree.

But degrade a simple disagreement down to flames, and expect them right back.

I agree H9 with you re audioholics !

But a LITTLE moderation might be a good thing.

I used to frequent RAO, IF you know what that is, LOL

I am no stranger to this.

There are fights going on there that have lsted for years.

Almost every thread soon denegrates down to name calling or flaming.

I THOUGHT this was going to be a good thread.

I strongly believe Pink Noise, if used properly, can hasten tweeter break in.

Instead, it has turned into this :(
