My current set up is monitor 40's biwired run off of an h/k avr 245. I just got a pair of rt20p's and I'm using the same biwire but when I hooked up the speakers my avr starts blinking protect and shuts off. Have I done something wrong? If so how do I fix it?
thanks

Check the new speakers with a Ohm meter."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

I will also say that it only seems to go to protect mode at higher volumes. Is it bad for the speakers or reciever if I use them just not at higher volume?T.V.- Sony KDL50W800B

I still say short/load issue. You may need to check out the wiring diagram.http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38755HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

Your HK only goes into protect when it "sees" trouble in the signal path. You new speakers may have speaker wire, crossover, internal speaker wiring, or internal amp (since they are powered) issues.
I would run them without the biwire to see if that makes a difference. + or - switched inside of a speaker at the back of the terminals may be seen by your AVR as a short. Just guessing......HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

ok I think I'm followin you. Does the fact that it only goes into protect when at higher volumes matter at all?T.V.- Sony KDL50W800B

I'm not too familiar with the powered section of the RT20p, as how the inputs work, but biwiring into high level inputs for the subs might be your issue.
Are there 3 sets of speaker connections for high, mids and subs or just 2?HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

there are 2 sets of speaker terminals, they are connected with brass jumpers. there is also line level in and out. I have it connected as follows. speaker wire into the top terminal w/jumpers removed, and sub hooked up from sub out on receiver to line level in on one speaker then line level out on same speaker to line level in on other speaker. I didn't get a manual with speakers, I work for a moving company and got them as a tip today.:oT.V.- Sony KDL50W800B

I bet your biwire on the bottom pair is in conflict with the line level sub input. This is a common issue with the LSi25 speaker. The bottom speaker jacks aren't tied to the mids, they are actually the high level inputs to your sub amps. This could be your issue...........simply disconnect from the bottom and run only into the top pair, if using the line level inputs too.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

yup thats how I have them, just plugged in on the top set, but it said to remove jumpers if using line level. sorry if I worded it wrong in last post.T.V.- Sony KDL50W800B

Then you aren't biwiring?HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

correct, my old speakers monitor 40's I had biwired, and the plugs at speaker end of the wire allowed for the 2nd set of wire to be plugged into them. I dont know if that makes sense or not.T.V.- Sony KDL50W800B

I get it............it still sounds to me like the speakers may have some crossover issues that make the receiver see too difficult of a load to drive at volume. HKs have nice amp sections, but they still have limits.
What happens when you hook them up using the high level inputs?HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

That receiver should have no problem with a small 8 ohm speaker."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

High level for the sub as opposed to line level?
Yep, this might change the load for the receiver. Run them set to large with no sub in your OSD.
This isn't optimum for movies by any stretch, simply a load change test.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

Yep...just trying to resolve your receiver shutdown issue. If that works, then the load change caused by the sub amps resistance may indicate that you have issues in the top end of your speakers in the crossover.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

Dennis, by god I think you've got it. I was able to turn it up to -15 db and still didnt "protect". When using line level could only go to about -28 db. I think that some of the old crossover components may be going south.
