RTi Power Consumption

Will I have any trouble driving a small 5 channel system with 90 watts per channel? The equipment will be a Marantz SR5001 with RTi6's, RTi4's, and CSi3. My experience with Marantz is that they typically have more power than advertised but I am most worried about the CSI3.

I don't think it would be a problem. Marantz makes quality equipment and so I doubt it would be too shabby in the power department. That system should sound pretty good.

    Agreed. At one time I drove RTi100's, RTi38's, RTi6's and a CSi5 with a Yamaha RX-V1500with ease.

Hockey, this is something that doesn't depend only on what the amplifier and speakers are, but is affected significantly by other factors, notably how loud an average listening level you use and how wide the dynamic range of the material you play is. For example, all your speakers are on the high side of average in sensitivity(no good reason for special concern about the CSi3)and will use 1 watt or a bit less at a comfortably loud average listening level. Brief peaks will take much more, again depending on how wide the dynamic range of the material being played is, but it's highly probable, as the other replies indicated, that your 5001 can handle this with no problem, so you shouldn't assume that there'll be a problem. Keep in mind that even if you got something with double the rating(i.e., around 180-200 watts)this would only increase the maximum loudness level possible by about 3dB(e.g., from 105dB to 108dB)which would be barely noticeable at such an extremely loud level. Again however, it's unlikely that you'd actually use the extra power capacity and unused maximum capacity is simply that: unused.

An amp rated at 90 wpc is going to run out of steam (clip) much quicker than one rated at 200 wpc at the same (105dB for example) listening level. So, that unused maximum capacity isn't unused, it's reserve.

That said, at reasonable levels, you should be fine with your set up.

Tip: whatever John K. posts, ignore it as he has no effing clue as to what the hell he's talking about.

dibs.... I will save you the trip. Send me your H/K crap and I will send you a really nice portable CD player that will output at least one watt. (no mention of the distortion needed to do it, but that is just a crap statistic put out by manufactures to get you to pay to much anyway.)

I will pay to ship mine and you pay to ship yours. (only fair since I will have to unload all that stuff to some gullable soul once I get it....) :D:D
