Netflix is worthwhile for HD-DVD adopters. They have great selection, although new releases on HD-DVD are difficult to get quickly.

I doubt you would hear much of a difference if you mix-match cables. Get a pair of sidewinder AQs and be done.

The HD-XA1 is a pretty awesome player / computer. I just recently took the time to properly set up it's bass management system. Do that before you start using the analog outs to make sure things are correct.

Thanks for the info guys. My setup is in no way high-end, so I think any decent ICs should do the trick. I'll probably do a few searches on eBay and check the usual suspects (Monoprice, Signal Cable, etc.) as well. The AQ Sidewinders are a bit more money than I was looking to spend ... will see if I can find a good deal on a used set.

I have read that after connecting the 5.1 analogs, there is quite a bit of config needed in order to get the bass output set up correctly ... something about the analog output lowering the bass signal by -10dB versus using a digital connection. I will make sure to use the bass management system to calibrate the low end after I get it hooked up. Thanks for the heads up!

I got my sidewinders for $22.50 a pair when Best Buy / Magnolia was closing out their stock. I guess at full price they are a little pricier than basic cables.
