I went to a craigslist sellers house tonight to pick up another pair of SRS's...absolutely gorgeous pair...to complement the pair I got last week :) As I was checking out the speakers , I see these Carver Silver Seven t mono amplifiers ( Pair ) sitting there....I ask him how much he wants for them ?

He has no clue what to ask for them...but needs to get rid of them as well as a ton of other Carver products. I took the other Carver products as they were part of a package deal with the SRS's...but the silver sevens weren't part of the SRS deal...everything else was though :) ....what should I offer him for them ?

I told him I knew nothing about the Carver amps but they are very clean and work fine ( They were driving the SRS's ) ....I told him just a guess, but something like 400 to 500 for the pair ? He has the manuals for them and they are over 500 watts into 8 ohms each.....here are some pics of them...along with my new second pair of SRS's and the other Carver stuff and the rest of the electronics that came with the SRS deal.

I want to be fair to the guy and pay him a fair price for the amps ( Low of course ...but at least fair ) ....his eyes lit up when I said 400 to 500...I told him I would ask here on the forum for an honest opinion on their worth. I am going back on Saturday ( Maybe Friday ) for the amps....any input would be greatly appreciated.

Monoblocks and SDA's are a no-no....unless you have the A1 interface.

500 for the pair is a great deal. Get 'em. If nothing else, you can make a few bucks.

get um for $400 if that's what he thinks is fair. They are after all 20 year old amps. Not your fault someone else may be willing to buy them for $1200 or so. . .

Nice grab! I tried to get some Carver ALIIIs on CL austin for $300 the other week, but was a bit too late. All they needed was a refoam job.

Haha...ok I will grab them...the guys wife has been hounding him to get rid of all the huge ( SRS's ) and cluttery ( Numerous separate Carver ) " Junk " so she can buy a Plasma and one of those " New " small speaker systems for that room The Carver amps are really nice , what really surprised me was while reading the manual it stated like over 500 watts into 8 ohms and low impedance stable...but the real kicker was the manual said they weighed 16 pounds each ?

I was like no way does a 500 watt amp weigh only 16 pounds....sure enough they do not weigh a ton ? I was surprised...does make it easier to lug home though.

P.S. Yeah Ron...same link I gave you the heads up on...when you said you couldnt get them...I couldnt pass up another dream deal like my SRS deal last week....800 for everything like the ad said...basically 500 for the pristine SRS's and 300 for all of the Carver separates/ DBX 10/20 computerized EQ/audiosource EQ/Technics very nice turntable/akai cassette deck/Yamaha DSP-1 digital soundfield processor/Yamaha 2/4 channel amplifier...EVERYTHING for 800 except the silver seven amps...I will go back for those for 500.

Well, since you are getting SDAs, you aren't going to want those monoblocks. You're going to want to resell them to me. Yep thats what you want.

    Seriously though, awesome deal.

Those Carver's use a commutating power rail scheme. Kind of like a sliding bias output or actually a switching type amp. They are somewhat complicated to fix so if you ever have problems make sure you find someone who understands how they are designed and how they work because it's very easy to f*ck them up.

Again mono's are a no no with SDA's unless they are 1) AI-1 compatible and 2) you have the AI-1 cable or are able to build one or 3) The negative terminals of each unit can be tied together (check with the manufacturer or a very knowldgeable repair shop).

    Nice find

The Carver tube monos can be strapped per Polk and Rita at Sunfire/Carver.

While I'm on the subject, fredv has been kind enough to look at my sick TFM35 since CCR has been down. He tells me it's my ears or imagination as he has played with it for 3 or 4 weeks on M5s, DQ10s and ALIIIs without any problems. Thankfully, he did open it up, tweak and sprinkled some magic dust in there, muttered a Chinese incantation and now it's good to go ;).

Thanks Fred...looking forward to putting it back in the rig.

The tube versions are Silver 7's and are ultra rare and expensive. The Silver 7t is a SS amp so I would still check to see if the terminals can be strapped.

P.s. Several have the Silver 9t's (Madmax comes to mind) and I don't believe the neg terminals are strapped.

I dont mind at all....I let my best friend take the pristine SRS's for 500 .....I kept all of the electronics for 300 ( The deal was entire stereo and speakers for 800 ).

On the side I saw 2 of the silver seven t amplifiers and asked him what he wanted for those...he had no clue...I told him I had no clue either but I guessed maybe 400 to 500 for the pair. After checking on here as to their worth , and looking myself online I found they were being picked up for like 1,200 for the 2 that I found online and was confirmed about that by forum members here.

I had to at LEAST give him half of what was the going recent rate so when my bud and I went back for the amps I told him that my 400 to 500 was a bit too low to make me be satisfied with the deal...but I still wanted a killer deal I told him. So I told him I would give him 600 ( My half...allowing me to meet that ) for the amps...he was extremely happy...as we both were...the guy was really a nice guy...so was his family.

So total monies spent for mint srs's...more carver components ( C-16 preamp..TL-3300 cd player...TX-11 FM tuner...and a digital time lens component as well I will have to read about...it went between the cd player and the preamp ) ...a nice turntable...cassette deck...a really nice DBX 10/20 compterized EQ....a audiosource EQ...a yamaha 2/4 channel amplifier...a yamaha DSP-1 soundfield processor..and the pair of Carver silver seven t monoblock amps was 1,400

Really the only things I wanted were the SRS's and the silver seven's...I will just sell the other components ( I gave away the cassette and turntable to my friends mom...she has loads of vinyl and cassettes she couldnt play because hers had crapped out ) on craigslist ( Or maybe on our flea market...the carver stuff is decent )

On a side note....I did the the cap/res upgrade to my srs's I picked up last week ( I already had the components here ) ....I pulled out the crossover of the srs's I just picked up day before yesterday to show my friend how easy the upgrade was to do....it had been done already !!!!! I told him not only did he pay 100 less then I did last week, his already had been upgraded ( And a very nice job I might add ) ....so I made him buy dinner last night.....
