I'm the original owner of a pair of SDA SRS2. I bought them back in the late 80's. I'm going to be setting them up in a Home Theater system and I'm looking for some recommendations on a center channel speaker either used or new. Anyone have a recommendation?

You can use a CSi5 as a center or even a single Monitor 5.
I have SDA 2B's and use a CSi5. I have not tried a Monitor 5 but others have with some success.
ScottI like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D -
Thanks Scott.
I noticed that thie CSi5 is on sale at Crutchfield for $299. Does that sound like a reasonable price? Also, do you have any recommendations on a reasonably priced sub?
Thanks in advance!

define reasonably priced? You are going to have to part with some coin to get a sub that matches, let alone exceeds, the bass provided by your SDA's.
The familiar party line seems to be SVS and HSU for good sounding home theater subs. The new PB13-ultra from SVS is supposed to be really something special (but not exactly value priced.)Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
Surrounds.......Polk LSi7 (Gloss Black - wood sides removed and crossovers upgraded)
Subwoofers.....SVS 25-31 CS+ and PC+ (both 20hz tune)
Pre\Pro...........NAD T163 (Modded with LM4562 opamps)
Amplifier.........Cinepro 3k6 (6-channel, 500wpc@4ohms) -
Looking at $200-$500 for a sub.

With SDA SRS2 speakers and that budget - set your sub to none and get an amp for your front speakers. (if you dont have one already)
I am serious - I don't think you can add a sub that will do anything but detract from the bass your SRS's are cabable of with that budget. Just give your front speakers some power and don't sweat the bass....
Michael
Edit - for more opinions on this, you might want to start another thread asking the same question rather than burying the question in a thread asking about a center channel.... (Just an idea)
Also - lest I forget - Welcome to Club Polk...Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)

Interesting. I was thinking the same, but I just wanted to throw out the idea to see what other people were thinking. If I were to get a sub, however, I would ideally have to spend more than $500, correct?

Alright, great. Thanks for the reply.
What do think of the CSi5 for a center channel with my SDA SRS2's? I only ask because I have a chance to purchase a used pair of CS350-LS centers for about $200.
Bernie -
The CSi5 is supposed to be a great center channel.
I have heard (but have not experienced) that using mutiple speakers as a center channel can create some comb effects that could mess with the center sound. You could always use just one of the CS350-LS speakers to get around this.
I would call Polk Customer Service and ask their opinion of what would match the best.
What tweeter do you have in your SRS2's? The best match (I would guess) would be a speaker that uses the same tweeter.Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)

Actually, it is not a used pair of CS350's. It is a single CS350 LS . My mistake-sorry.
Is there any easy way to tell what tweeters I have in my SDA SRS2's? -

The original tweeters in the SRS 2's were the SL2000's
Polk sells a new replacement silk RDO tweeter that is sweeeeeet. -
Thanks Mike.
Any idea of the cost per tweeter? -
Thanks Mike.
Any idea of the cost per tweeter?
48 bucks each, for Club Polk members...BTW,welcome to the Club.
Believe me,this is the best $200. you could ever spend on your SDA's -
Mike ,
I may just do the replacement. It would cost me $288 to do all 6 tweeters.
Thanks for the info and glad to be a member of the club.

Sorry,I thought you said you have SRS 2's which would have a total of 4 tweeters.

All 6 tweeters? What others are you gonna do? The SRS2's only have 4.Richard? Who's your favorite Little Rascal? Alfalfa? Or is it........................Spanky?.................................Sinner.

How about a picture of your speaks?I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D

As I mentioned, I have SDA-SRS2 speakers. Here's a picture of one of them.

It will rattle your world.
I built two monster subs, and no longer need it -

Ah ha,2.3's...there was a previous model of SDA's named SDA SRS 2 -
Thanks for the replies, everyone.
I just looked at the back of the speaker near the serial number and it says SDA SRS 2. However, I just dug out the manual and it says that they are SDA SRS 2.3's. Sorry for the confusion!Ah ha,2.3's...there was a previous model of SDA's named SDA SRS 2
Yup, that would be them!

Is that white-faced driver standard? -
Well, between the CSi5 center and new replacement tweeters, and a good sub... we pretty much knocked the crap out of your budget.
Hang around,we're pretty good at spending OPM -
Maybe that's just the flash on it. The 2.3's I have don't have a white donut on them!
Yep, that will definitely take 6 tweeters.Richard? Who's your favorite Little Rascal? Alfalfa? Or is it........................Spanky?.................................Sinner. -
Actually, the driver is not white faced. It's just the lighting effect from the camera's flash. The speaker and all of it's components are original.Well, between the CSi5 center and new replacement tweeters, and a good sub... we pretty much knocked the crap out of your budget.
That's fine, I'm flexible.
Bernie -
Also, knowing now that the speakers are SDA-SRS2.3's and not SDA-SRS2's, is the Csi5 still a good choice for a center channel speaker?
Bern -
A CS400i is a pretty close match, probably closer than the CSi5, IMO.
Combo rig:
Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
PB13Ultra RO
BW Silvers
Oppo BDP-83SE -
The original 2.3's have the donuts. I believe it was put there to defuse the driver outputs.engtaz
I love how music can brighten up a bad day. -
Knowing they are 2.3's - what tweeter is in them? From the pics, almost looks like the SL2000 but I thought most of the SRS speakers (after the original SRS) had at least a SL2500. (don't want him to order 6 of the wrong tweeter - plus it may open up other options as a center channel.)
Does your Home Theater use a projector or more normal size screen? What do you plan to mount your center channel on? What I am driving at is will a single normal speaker work as your center channel or does it need to be shaped like a center channel (long and low)?
