I beginning to think that vinyl is making a serious comeback.
My favorite LP's are from YES. Not so much for the music... but, for the unusual art on the LP covers. It used to be that the design of the album cover was an important feature of the purchase. I miss that. -
Which Yes albums? I love YES music.engtaz

Frank Zappa- Hot Rats
David Bromberg- Demon in Disguise
Beastie Boys- Paul's Boutique

Travelling Wilburies-Vol1
Joni Mitchell-The Hissing of Summer Lawns
Jennifer Warnes-Famous Blue Raincoat
Chilliwack-Dreams, Dreams, Dreams
James Gang-Thirds
Eagles-Hell freezes over -
Okay....ready?
Now, these are NOT in order but 10 you should have:
1. Dire Straits Brothers in Arms - 180gm reissue
2. Steely Dan Aja/Gaucho - Aja, get the MFSL release
3. Eva Cassidy - Songbird
4. Jim Hall - Concierto
6. Bartok Concerto for Orchestra - George Solti - London
7. Alan Parsons - IRobot
8. DiMeola, DeLucia, McLaughlin - Friday Night in San Francisco
9. Santana - Abraxas
10. Dvorak: Concerto for Cell - Janos Starker - Merc Living Presence
11. Rachmaninov piano concerto #3 - Byron Janis - Merc Living Presence
12. Alison Krauss/Union Station- either of thier MFSL releases.
EDIT: Damn, I for got Sinatra at the Sands. Get that instead of the Alan Parsons. You gotta have some Sinatra in your library.
Ignore any spelling mistakes....I'm doing this from memory off the cuff. So there is 12, sue me.

Great recording of mediocre material. I've got the mono and stereo versions....I actually like the mono better. Harry just doesn't do it for me, really.
For a live recording, Sinatra at the Sands is the only way to go.
Also, Also Sprach Zarathurstra (sp) is a cool one to have, I actually prefer the version by Zubin Mehta on the London/Decca label. If you go with the Reiner/RCA go with the 1954(?) version, I believe that it's been redone and readily available. I think it's LSC-1806.

TroyD, excuse my lack of knowledge but what is a MFSL release.

If you're axing I Robot, I'll take it. Even the original vinyl's SQ is jaw-droppingly gorgeous...
The Alan Parsons Project - I Robot
When it comes to being fincky about SQ, Parsons "... may not be in a class by himself, but it does not take long to call the role."
And off the top of my head, which is anything but orderly....
Robbie Robertson - Storyville
Dark... Smokey... Seductive...
Heifitz/ Reiner & CSO - Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto- 1957
Yes, 1957... and it still stands up to nearly all of the more recent recordings... and, well, it's Heifitz...
The Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed
There are not that many truly groundbreaking, rock recordings... this is one of them.
Elvis Costello - My Aim is True
Crisp... detailed... riveting
Thomas Dolby - The Golden Age of Wireless
Quirky material melticulously recorded...
"Good heavens, Mrs. Moto.... You're beautiful!"
Charles Dutiot & Montreal SO - Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique for orchestra
One of the most, if the not the most, sumptuous recordings I have heard.
The Who - Who's Next
Mentioned in an earlier post. One of a couple on this list that are also on my "Desert Island" list. Great sounding LP that spawned hit single after hit single.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis: Bold as Love
Sadly much of Jimi's catalog is not well recorded... not the case here.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Emerson, Lake & Palmer
This may be the only LP of which I have three copies... all from the original BMG LP mail order service. One has a flaw on side one; one a flaw on side two; the third was just right. Very well recorded. The deep synth at the end of "Lucky Man" will test your cartridge/ tone arm combo...
Ricki Lee Jones - Ricki Lee Jones
The finger snaps of "Chuck E.'s in Love" alone are enough to put this release on the list.
And, if I can be permitted a CD...
The Glenn Miller Orchestra (sort of...) - In the Digital Mood - GRP
Yup, big band made my list. Dave Gruisin came up with the idea and musicians lined up to participate. Give it a listen, it just might make your list...More later,
Tour...

"There is a certain entertainment value in ripping the occaisonal (sic) buttmunch..." - TroyD -
No specific order:
Van Morrison- Moondance
Pink Floyd- The Division Bell
Nirvana- Nevermind
E.L.P.- Works Vol. I
Return to Forever- Romantic Warrior
Led Zeppelin- I
Leo Kottke- 6 and 12 String Guitar
Joe Sample- Carmel
Natalie Merchant- Tigerlily
Yes- Fragile
Honorable mention: Eric Johnson- Tones -
SRV - Texas Flood
Steely Dan - Aja
Joanie mitchell -Blue
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
Clapton/Cale- Road to Escondido
Santana - Welcome
Robert Palmer - Sneakin' Sally thru the Alley
Little Feat - Goodbye Columbus
CSN&Y - Deja Vu
Miles Davis - Blue[ -
Anything from the recommended SDA play list (from the owners manual) is nice. Fortunately, I have quite a few of those on LP and CD both for comparison. Very nice sounding.Richard? Who's your favorite Little Rascal? Alfalfa? Or is it........................Spanky?.................................Sinner.

If you go with the Reiner/RCA go with the 1954(?) version, I believe that it's been redone and readily available.
FWIW, I like the music on Belafonte live, not just the sound. YMMV, though... -

I'm hacking more than anything...I enjoy a good bit of it but just have never really understood the great following of this LP(s). For a live album, I think Sinatra at the Sands is far and away superior.
