Same here. My new Dish HD satellite receiver has HDMI and I have an upconverting DVD player (1080i) with HDMI but I still use component on everything and it looks fine to me. I just don't get into video enough to worry about all of that. They are making things too complicated and I'm even an A/V rep!Richard? Who's your favorite Little Rascal? Alfalfa? HDMI doesn't necessarily mean better sound quality. You have a good B&K pre, if you were going to go to something like say the REF 70, then it would make sense. If you are going to a cheap receiver then it may be a decrease in sound quality, even though you are utilizing HDMI. -
right now i don't have any equiment with hdmi. but when the format war over I will get new tv and hi-def dvd player. I only worry about the sound since i can connect dvd directly to tv but how about the loess HD sound.Sony 60" XBR2

i don't think going with an HDMI pre amp or receiver is going to give you any better audio.. HDMI only is for convenience if nothing else and it keeps video in the digital domain. audiowise, you can get the same digital audio using either a coax or optical digital cable.
video quality is important to me.. since I work in TV.... so i know a good quality picture when I see it... and using component video and a good quality optical cable and everything looks and sounds great to me.
if it bugs you enough. then upgrade.. but i honestly think you'll be spending money you don't really need to at this time. IMHOPolkFest 2012, who's going>?

I assume the reason he is upgrading would be to get the lossless audio formats which can't be sent via coax or optical. The only reason I am interested in HDMI for the increase in sound quality over current methods, as well as the change to 7.1 formats. SACD in DSD would be nice to. -
I'd wait until the format thing shakes out a bit more. I'm waiting for B&K's new model myself.

I wonder if DirecTV does the same thing, as this 2 channel audio with HDMI error. I did try to run my HT by HDMI to TV then optical from TV to AVR for the audio. When a DD5.1 was viewed the audio died, I was thinking the TV was not doing output but maybe the HDMI was not doing the input. The optical audio from the TV will give me DD5.1 if watching OTA signal, so maybe the HDMI was doing the error.

I've found that on DirecTV, when watching HD channels, sometimes the commercials will lose their audio. Its almost a bonus feature for me!
I listen to the 6 channel audio via the optical input into my Denon AVR. So, I don't know whether HDMI passes 6 channels of audio or not. -

HDMI is a single connection to a preamp or receiver to send both audio and video signal via digital. With HD DVD and BLUE RAY , there is another advantage as described some in the above response. The only way to get the new audio formats is HDMI. You can also send it the old fashion way of 6 analog cables to a multichannel isput the same way SACD and DVD AUDIO does. That also only works if the player has the ability to decode to aduio signal correctly. Most use PCM to send audio with HDMI currently with formats 1.1 and 1.2 HDMI.
HDMI also is nice for that single connection. It really makes a difference in cleaning up the madness behind your rig. I hate more then anything having millions of wires all over the place. Wire management is great but time consuming and I get tired of doing it.
Waiting for the new B&K preamp isn't a bad thing. I'm eager to see it go myself. I'm always looking for ways to improve my system. I already own HD DVD and I'm also picking up BLUE RAY. My tv only has 1 hdmi in and i don't have any HDMI switching so I'm also looking for the next generation preamps.
Pioneer ELite has already released a fully 1.3a HDMI series of receivers. They work extremely well. If no one releases a killer preamp with everything I need, I may look into using a receiver(goes against everything I believe in) as a preamp until Rotel or someone steps up.
