Good to know Ricardo has a good set of ears on him. ;)
Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

Game, Set, Match. . . Thiels.

Good to know. I'm going to keep looking for a steal on some 2.3's.

    Ricardo,

If you are ever in Indy and want to hear the Thiel 3.6's powered by a Krell amp with the same specs... let me know.

    - Ron

PS No surprise at all that you like the Thiel 3.6's. The Thiel 7.2's are the only speaker upgrade left.
PPS Sara says that the black cloth Thiels look much better than the white ones!

The 7.2's are too big for my room. What about the 3.7's? They must be really good.

I picked up these speakers in the same place where you delivered the 3.1's in Batesville :)

Or, your room is too small for the 7.2's (i.e. upgrade both the room and the speaker)!

Oh... one other thing... on some music... like Eric Clapton.... I prefer the sound of the Polk 3.1TL's to the Thiels. The Thiels are great speakers. The 3.1TL's are fine speakers.

I didn't even know Thiels had white grilles like that. Every ad I have ever seen for them show lovely black speakers.

As long as they sound good... have you tried them without the grilles? Some speakers sound better and some sound worse that way... and it's always cool to look at the drivers... how are people supposed to know you are a true audiophile without a bunch of speaker cones showing?! ;)

The Thiels have a note in the binding posts plate that says that the grills should be left on for better sound, so they will stay there. Plus....I must admit that the Thiel drivers are not that attractive.

Is the paint really as lemon/fluorescent yellow as it appears in the pictures?

Switch out the rug. Get a nice white polar bear throw to go with the white grilles. You can lounge on it and listen...

Tylers look beautiful. How much are you dumping them for?

The paint is yellow....but not really fluorescent....
The cloth will be changed to black :)

The Tylers are already posted in Audiogon. I will post a link in the FM.

I usually listen with the lights off so the color of the grills wouldn't matter much to me.

No one sees them but you since they're tucked away in your man cave anyway ;)

He's been hanging out with Early B. too much. . .

I love when people sell the "last speakers I will ever own" if only because of the irony / hypocrisy.

I'm an idiot. Hate when I go to give someone flack and then grossly misspell a word. That's what happens when you start posting early on Monday morning before the first cup of coffee.

Glad you like the Thiels. Sorry some of us feel the need to give a little ribbing when gear is sold months / years after a statement like "I'm done."

The coherent source really does something for the listener, doesn't it?

I really like the smaller ones in the boys room...

Until you buy another set... The grass will begin to fade on your side of the fence.

Definately some black in the room would set a nice contrast to the white grilles.

Any chance we can get a shot of those babies naked? Personally, I prefer the look of black grills over the white ones, but those look great as well. If you change colors, will you refabric the current grills, dye them, or replace them. Nice, nice setup you got there.

I heard the Thiel 3.6's powered by Krell back in 1991. At the time, I thought... $4250 for a set of speakers with a $3750 amp and a $2K preamp... pfff... for $10K, its almost worth it... though, I would never put that much money out for a stereo system.

Well... today (in 2007), the set can be purchased used for
    Thiel 3.6's $1400
    Krell KAV250Amp $1600
    Krell KAV250Pre-amp $1000
    Total: $4K

For $4K... its the best bang for the buck on the planet.
Still haven't heard anything that comes close.

Nice! I like to think I have one of the best budget / bang for buck setups around. For about $1K, Thiel CS1.2s and MF A3.2.

Great combo for not a lot of dough. Also, their support is great. They replaced a tweeter that had a little distortion quickly and for free, even though the speakers aren old and out of warranty. I think list price is $40 for tweeter rebuild, which is totally reasonable if not a steal of a deal. They will rebuild drivers for midrange for like $30 - $60 each as well, no matter how old.

So, those 3.6s can actually be your "last set of speakers ever" if you really want them to be.

    Huh?

Did someone change out my speakers recently and not tell me?

If HTrookie were hanging out with me too much, he'd be more f*cked up than he already is.

For the record, I'll say it again -- my speakers are staying for a long while. Here's the initial post:

Okay, you may have the same speakers, but I think you claimed "done" then changed some electronics / components only months later.

Again, not a personal attack, just some brotherly ribbing. . . :)
