I have RTi12's as my fronts, CSi5, and FXi5's for my rears and my question was i'm thinking about getting more power for my fronts and center and I can get Rotel a little below cost at my job. I have been wanting a set of Outlaw monoblocks for each of my RTi12's for a while but now that i can get Rotel my decision has gottin more difficult. The Rotel rb-1080 2-Channel 200wx2 I can order for $600 shipped which I would need 2 for each RTi12 which is $1200. Outlaw on the other hand I would need 4 monoblocks to power both RTi12's costing about $1300 plus I would get one free to power my center. What would you guys do??? Btw My reciever is a Denon avr-887.

i could be wrong here.. but doesn't Outlaw Audio cut you some kind of deal with the more monoblock amps you buy from them? I could swear if you bought like 5 they cut you a good deal. check it out. but don't quote me on it. ;)

if you buy 3 all you get is free shipping you have to buy 4 to get 1 free. how about sound quality between the two.

Am I reading your post wrong? Why do you feel the need to have 2 monoblocks per speaker or 1 stereo amp per speaker? I would much rather spend $1200 on a really nice 2ch amp then on 2 decent 2 ch amps.

I'll take it a step further, if your wanting to spend all this money on amps, why not get better speakers???

Get the Rotel for your 12's & one monoblock for your center. Course this is how I started out & then I quickly wanted ALL five channels before I would be satisfied.

So you can do it the long way, or you can continue to save money & just get a 5 channel amp & be done with it.

Both amps will be fine because they are 200 watts, or better.

two mono blocks per speaker would only be in your bi amping them. otherwise 1 mono block per speaker is fine.

Well I will be getting B&W's since I can also get them at cost but even at cost i'm not ready to drop that kinda money right now. Is there any pro's in putting 2 seperate amps on each of the RTi12's ex: 200watts on the highs and 200watts on the lows vs 500w to the speaker using the metal brackets the speaker comes with?

I would much rather spend a $1200 budget on one very good quality stereo amp over two decent quality $600 amps.

There would be benefits but they would be outweighed by the cost both $ and opportunity costs.

200wpc on the tweeters is overkill.

200wpc for the 12's is more then enough power. No need to hook up 400watts. You could take that 1200 bucks to the used market like audiogon and get yourself an awsome 5-channel amp for that kind of money.

 Huh? I'm suggesting that he get the Rotel 1080 & an Outlaw monoblock for his 12's & center or save his money & get a 200 wpc 5 channel amp instead.

I was talking about his first post when he said he needed 2 1080's or 4 m2200's to run his Rti-12's. I think that would be over kill. Your advice was top notch as always;)

I think I have decided to go with the RB-1092 500 watts x 2. for my RT's. If you guys still have suggestions please feel free to let me know.

I thought you were looking to spend around $1200, am I mistake or isn't the 1092 $2500...over 2x your budget?

The RB-1092 is way overkill for the RTi12's. If you are getting a killer deal on the 1092 and plan to upgrade your speakers soon, then go for it. Why not just get the 1077, should be plenty for most speakers and has 7 channels for Ht if you plan to go that route. I know a few people running inefficient B&W 800 Series speakers fine with the 1077.

 WOO HOO!:D I love this place!!!!:D Well that will certainly run your speakers just fine!

Venom, there is no such thing as overkill on power! Who made up all this overkill BS anyway? If he has the money to afford the 1092, then he should go for it.

If I had to choose I also would choose the 1092. I heard the 1077 on some B&W's & I was not impressed.

I have a question on this subject. If you are running an amp that is say 400wpc rms. Your speakers are rated at 200 wpc. Will your speakers ever draw wattage anywhere near the 400 mark?

LOL, Cathy, no B&W will ever impress you because they all use metal tweeters, we went over this already. So of course the amp did not impress you.

I never said "overkill on power", I said overkill for the RTi12's. He can spend his money any way he chooses, but he will hit a glass ceiling with those speakers. They are not bad, but will never be able to achieve the output that the 1092 can deliver. Unless a speaker upgrade is close by...

:D It wasn't the speakers this time, it was definately the amp. I was expecting the siblance, but I know what the music should sound like when I go for a listen, it was dulled, the back up vocals were muted, etc. with the 1077. When played on the 1092 everything was back!

It doesn't matter if his RTi 12's or my RTA-8T's never utilize all of the 200, 405, 500wpc that the amps can put out. All that is important that they can utilize all the watts that they want to take in order to sound thier best.

And that's the difference between me & the rest of you. I just want to make sure that my equipment is giving me EVERYTHING they are capable of. So if our speakers have hit the glass ceiling, it doesn't really matter since they sound TERRIFIC! which is the whole point of this hobby.:D

I have had my RB-1092 now for 14 mons and this thing just keep getting better with time. Had a side-by-side comparison with a RB-1090 - the 1092 ruled except in exothermic properties. I could have cooked my dinner on the 1090.

As you pointed out, I reached the glass ceiling with 200wpc. I can't notice a difference with the extra 205wpc. I figure the extra will come in very handy if I ever upgrade to some LSI's or Dynaudio speakers.
