ya, saw that early on, got a comment on it up near the top
You just cant discount the fact that there is 4.5 million PS3's out there with BR in them.
And the word is getting out that the PS3 is THE BR player to have and people are starting to snatch them up. Even if it has been (to me) a worthless game system with the exception of classic Gauntlet and MK2
For my HT, this thing has been a Gods send.Testing

PS3 aside, I have no doubt Blu will win. Better studio support, better movies and more of them. Seems HD-DVD has all but fallen off the map. I don't even buy them anymore, all I buy is Blu as it seems the only HD-DVD studio exclusively supporting it puts out very few, if any, movies.If...

They offer hi-rez music via SACD and DVD-A, SACD wins, but it goes nowhere, basically. They offer hi-rez video via Blu-ray and HD DVD, Blu-ray looks like the winner and it appears that it will take off.
Nothing personal to anyone here, but I find that to be very sad.Political Correctness'.........defined

Both sell as far as hardware is concerned but Blue ray is selling more.
The Xbox360 deal should boost the amount of players out there. the PS3 is an amazing player. I'm planning on using it as my first Blue ray player. I was going to buy the Pioneer Elite but if and it's a big if blue ray fails then at least my kids have a very cool video game console and a very cool music server.

This is another thing that will come out of the war in the end. People are just absolutely going to hate Sony, people are absolutely going to hate Toshiba. Neither is good and its just goofy any ways.
I admit I hate the Steelers since the refs let them steel the super bowl but man.. that was foot ball, this is just electronicsTesting

They should do a comeback on SACD and DVD-A. Now that home theater is getting even bigger, I bet DVD-A would have a larger following. Completely off-topic, but interesting...

I'm actually hoping that they release uncompressed PCM music blu-rays at some point. With the cost of production falling and hardware beginning to show up in the millions of homes, it should be worth it to publish music in the format at some point. -
I dont think it matters, both formats have supporters out there. HD DVD is now coming up on its Gen 3 players, with the price theyre going at the format will continue to sell. I think its a matter of which fomat will offer the movies you want. It would be nice if every studio offered all the titles we want in dual format, so the consumer could go either route. I dont think either format is going anywhere any time soon. I buy both Blu and HD DVD, no regrets in being format neutral.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Sheardp,
I've actually had both in my possession before. The XA2 is a wonderful machine, fast load times, great build quality, and about half the size of the XA1. If I was to upgrade my current XA1, I'd wait for the XA3 that is rummored to arrive this fall. If it's possible for you to deal with the slow load times of the A1, I'd wait. -
And yet so much more entertaining then football.
Then it's a shoe-in for Blu-ray as Universal is the only studio HD-DVD exclusive.
No regrest here either.
I did read in my HT mag that Universal produces and releases more movies than the studios backing Blu-ray. That Warner Bros does both formats, and in Europe HDDVD is outselling Blu-ray 2 to 1. It's not just the American market that will decide the outcome of the HD format war.

I dont think thats true. When 300 was released, the stats were that it BR out sold it 2 to 1. In europe it was 3 to 1 for BR.Testing

I guess so, missed that info all together. That's good news for HD-DVD and I might be able to start adding more to my collection. Transformers is a must buy!If...

Just a link below from an Oz news paper that Dreamworks and Paramount are dropping BR and dedicating their films to HD-DVD.

And Sony doesn't have a vested interest in Blu Ray?
-
Sony's been doing the same thing since day one.
Target, Blockbuster, Fox, Disney.
Who cares? It's called business, and BD lost this round. -
Netflix has 350 Blu-Ray Titles & 300 HD titles

That is soon to change REAL quick! -
Very interesting hypothesis posted at AVS:
The real story is that all it took was $150M in incentives to sway the #1 movie studio this year to abandon BD! What does that tell you about the confidence that a major company like Viacom has in the economic viability of BD? This is a discussion point that no one seems to be thinking about. Apparently, Universal turned down an equally attractive offer to go netural (in opportunity cost that would mean Univeral too decided that $150M or whatever the BDA was offering them was not sufficient inducement to release on that format)!!!!
Honestly, I am shocked. What do these studios know about the basic business model about BD that Paramount who was already neutral and had a team in place would abandon it so easily....with nary a second thought. There is NO WAY the BDA can spin that....OK they got money. But wait a minute. You mean, all it took was $150M to abandon all their existing BD infrastructure and pull all their titles? Is there a correlation between Paramount making this decision and Fox announcing titles? Did Sony coerce Fox into action? -
Always remember that you're MikeC78 and not on the board of any company that makes these decisions. It's not uncommon for this to be primarily financially based but not every caveat of the actual deal, or previous offer will ever make it to our level of ownership or lack thereof. You see a dollar figure but I would bet that there is a whole lot more in that contract than money.
The ultimate loser is the consumer because this will end up costing us 150 million, not the studios.
For someone who hates fanboys, you sure do read like one. Viva la' whatever.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
