Eh, they've been theorizing about faster than light items before. Tachyon's and the force of gravity are two examples (Though I'm not sure if they have proven anything about the "speed" of gravity)
There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

Pretty cool but I dont know if it violates Einstein's speed limit. I think his theory was that nothing with mass could travel faster than light. Photons are light particles containing no mass.

Dammit I wanted to do some time travelling lol:D

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

Even if you could go the speed of light, you still couldnt get anywhere.

At the speed of light it would take you 4 years to get to the nearest star, 100,000 years to get to the other side of the galaxy and 2,000,000 years to get to the nearest galaxy.

Hell it would take you 3 minutes just to get to the sun!!

Pretty sure it's 8 minutes, not 3... the sun is 93,000,000 miles away, speed of light is 186,000 miles/second... carry the 2.... 8 and a third minutes.

To put it in perspective, the sun could have died 7 minutes ago, and we wouldn't know it for another 60 seconds....

Groucho Mark, Betty Boop, and Steve Guttenberg... nope.

    Everyone else?
    Yeah..
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I remembered the number after I saw it from physics, but i was mainly referring to the distance to the sun...lol

Doesnt it depend on the time of the year as to how close we are :):):)

Youre right Bob. The sun is indeed 93 million miles away which would be 8.33 minutes at 186,000 mps or roughly 500 seconds.

I couldnt remember the exact number. I just knew it was around 5 and I was too lazy to actually do any math. :D

Yes, we are generally closest to the Sun January 3-5 (this year the 3rd) and farthest July 4-6 (this year the 7th).

You'd think it be the complete opposite, with the heat in the summer and such... interesting.

The earth is closer to the sun in January, but it is tilted on its axis of rotation such that the rays of the sun do not strike the northern hemisphere as directly as during the summer months. This tilting is also the reason why the seasons between the northern and southern hemispheres are not the same.
