Actually, from what they've been discussing on ESPN, he will serve at least 20 of those 23 months in prison. Fed isn't as lenient when it comes to "time off for good behavior."

This of course assumes that the state charges do not amount to anything.

Quarterback Michael Vick has signed a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, his agent, Joel Segal, confirmed to ESPN.com.

Vick was the No. 1 draft pick in 2001, and once the highest-paid player in football. But he has not played since 2006 when his career came tumbling down. He was convicted in August 2007 of conspiracy and running a dogfighting operation, sentenced to 23 months in federal prison and suspended indefinitely by the NFL.

But after serving his time and being released from home confinement July 20, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell conditionally lifted Vick's suspension, allowing him to sign with a team.

Its a "dog eat dog" world out there. Should have been given a lifetime ban from NFL play IMHO, given the circumstances and cruelty surrounding his crime. Now that where past that, its all about this: $$$$$! to me the NFL's motivation for reinstating him. Shameful! just what young kids need nowadays, another negative role model.

As an Eagles fan, I'm of two minds - what he did was despicable, yet everyone deserves a second chance (if Leonard Little and Donte Stallworth can play football after killing a human being, why can't Vick?)

    Dirt cheap pickup.

1.6 million for this season, and NO guaranteed money.
5.0 million for next season, Eagles option.

McNabb has always been a vocal Vick supporter; I'm guessing this won't rub him the wrong way. Vick isn't being picked up to replace McNabb, but to supplement him in the Wildcat and other offensive situations. Could do all sorts of cool things split out as a WR or RB; all manner of screen options.

As a Falcons fan who was ready to start looking at other options before the dog fighting stuff went down, I agree.

As much as most Philly fans probably find Vick's crime disgusting on one hand, I'd sure bet they'd love to kick some serious PETA-**** on the other!!! :D

Never really been a Vick fan and what he did was wrong no doubt. He paid his debt to society and in my opinion it would be wrong to deny him the ability to do the only thing he really knows how to do....play football. Im all for second chances, if he screws up again, he's history.

'Bout time the Eagles got somebody worth a damn to back up Donovan "Glass" McNabb for the next time he gets hurt.

As far as what Vick did, yeah, it was bad. That's why he went to jail. He served his time, his debt to society is paid. He made a mistake. With Tony Dungy as his mentor, I really doubt he will make a mistake like that again.

Goodell didn't reinstate him to make money. Goodell reinstated him 'cause the guy wants to play. He wants to go and be what everyone thought he could. He has a real good chance with a team that might go somewhere this year. I mean hell, if I was stuck on a team as craptastic as the Falcons and labeled as their only salvation, I'd be lookin' for something else to occupy my time too.

Vick is gonna be on the Eagles in arguably the toughest division in all of football. He's on a contending team and I think you're gonna see a whole new Vick. Although I think he'd be better suited to the Vikings or Seattle but, we'll see.

Vick was one of the most athletic qb's to ever play the game. True, his completions pale in comparison to true passer (only 53% or so lifetime), but the guy is quick, and nimble. He actually blew away many running backs, and holds a few records. I believe he paid his debt, and look forward to his continued performance on the field, and his work with the Animal Cruelty Society off the field. Time will tell.

The problem was that none of his athleticism ever translated into being a great football player. I'm sorry, but it's true. The guy was a joy to watch with teh Falcons because he was so fast in the pocket and unpredictable, but until someone finds a way to integrate his talents into the NFL, he's useless, no matter how much of his unique talent he has.

Agreed. I hate him for what he was involved in, but how many of professional athletes are far worse people, and have done far worse things? Probably a huge percentage. Stallworth KILLED A MAN WHILE DRIVING DRUNK and went to jail for less than a month, and will be back on the field.

Personally, I am sick of hearing about him. With the start of another NFL season, I would rather focus on THE GAMES and THE TEAMS.
Atlanta is such a weak pro football city, he is all they discuss on the rasio and TV.

Just like Brett Favre, I am sick of hearing about this guy. I am sick of hearing about Stallworth. I am sick of pro athletes getting a pass. However, in Stallworth's case what people fail to realize is that the family of the victim agreed to his sentencing. He was very apologetic and forthright apparently in his investigation. It doesn't make it right at all (and in no way am i condoning what happened), but if the penalty was enough for the family of the victim, it should be enough. He has been resolute in his remorse and the fact that he will have to live with this for the rest of his life.

Vick really wasn't sentenced for dogfighting. He was indicted on a federal conspiracy charges and his sentencing, albeit related to the charges of dogfighting, stemmed from perjury, misleading investigators and obstruction of justice. In my opinion, he's a piece of garbage and has never shown any remorse in his actions. Honestly, he's not that good of a football player either, IMHO. He has been resolute in his lack of remorse and his arrogance. His work with the Humane Society is laughable at best.

Then one can ask, how can you compare the loss of life of a human to dogs? I don't know the answer to that and find it hard to explain, but my feeling is that decency and morality hinges on the respect of life. No matter what, I think people are more willing to embrace the person who accepts his wrongdoing, pays his "legal debt" to society, shows remorse and truly learns from the experience to become a better person and is a productive member of society. I think this is why Vick is still being talked about - he has shown none of these qualities. Stallworth has. Whether or not this will last remains to be seen. Time will tell.

Until these leagues start enforcing a true zero tolerance policy, they will continue to be scrutinized. If you're not familiar with the Leonard Little case, read about it - It will make your blood boil. Lawrence Phillips, Plaxico Burress, etc. The list goes on....................

Fact is that these guys are stars and are forgiven for what they bring to the franchises - they put butts in the seats and make people boatloads of money. It's not just athletes either. Actors, CEO's, etc. If I was Robert Downey, Jr. I would have rotted in jail for the rest of my life for the amount of drug charges he has. But, his movie Iron Man still made 200 million dollars! Might not be "as bad" because nobody was killed, but laws are laws and somehow these people have enough money to circumvent them.

HAMPTON, VIRGINIA—During a preseason conditioning workout Tuesday, Michael Vick's de facto mentor, Tony Dungy, peppered the troubled quarterback with innocent questions about the sport of dogfighting, offhandedly inquiring about how "cool" it is. "So, yeah, how fun was that, anyway, the whole dogfighting thing?" asked Dungy, while the two jogged side-by-side during a cooldown. "Must have been a real rush watching those dogs go at it like that, huh? Morally reprehensible, of course, but, man, it's got to be tempting to head back to the pit and just mix it up a little. Good thing you're not doing that anymore. So bad." Dungy later showed Vick a photo of his new pit bull, Tex, and asked him what he thought.
