DefTech BP7004 vs LSI 15/25

Hey guys, I'm finally about to bite the bullet and upgrade my system. My question for you experts is how do these two compare. I realize this is a polk forum but simply trying to get the most for my money. By the way, I have a chance to purchase a demo pair of 7004 for about the same price as the LSI15 discount prices.

Thanks

By the way, I searched and found one thread with some advice. I do plan on purchasing a seperate amp too.

LSI FX

I never heard the DT's so I can only relay what I've read (fantastic for HT, pretty good but not great for 2 channel). If that's true I can't comment. However I did hear the LSI15's & they were excellent for both HT & 2 channel. Tough call on your part, let your ears & budget make the final decision.

My opnion the Lsi15's are far superior to the 7004's in every way and even on Sunday. I perfer the sound of the Lsi's. I tried to like Def Tech and spent many hours messing around with them. In the end they are not for me.

The DefTech BP series is great for HT but easily forgotten on 2CH.

I always felt that if Definitive would take the drivers, cabinet construction and crossover design they implemented into the 7000 series and made them in a passive line to take place of the BPxxB lineup, they would have a great line up.

I kind of did this, I made my own cabinets, mirror imaged them and over-hauled the crossover... and they still are one of my most favorite speakers ever. Absolutely loved the BP10B. So much fun to play around with!

Love the 7000 series, but are so overpriced with those god awful cube subs built into the speaker. Those subs absolutely suck.

Either way, if it were me, I would go with the BP10B - but that isnt on par with a LSi15, its inbetween the RTi and the LSi series to me.

Now I think if the 7000 series were transferred into a passive line up, they would be on pay with the LSi series.

Bipolar speakers are so much fun! haha.

The only manufacturer I've heard that does a monkeycoffin bipole/dipole design right, is Von Schweikert. DT ain't no VS...but the price brackets don't match either.

Mirage has the bipolar (well they call it Omni-polar) area covered pretty well too. The original "M" series were quite spectacular as are a few of the "OM" series, especially the non powered version.

LSi series is very hard to beat for a 2ch and it's naturally a great HT speaker too, IMO. Never really had a chance to spend much time with Def Tech.

Mirage basically invented the bipolar design with replica front and rear arrays...

And the basic design works off reflections and getting rid of any signal lost due to cancelation in the backwave.

So basically you get a reinforced bass response and a nice airy soundstage when positioned right.

They are ALOT of fun to play around with.

The Omni polar is a neat idea, would love to have a pair of the Omnis and the Bipolars to dick around with. TONS of fun.

Chances are I'll pick up a pair of BP30s to play around. Always wanted a pair.

Anyways, the LSi's sound good, but the Def Techs are "funner" haha

I REALLY want to hear the new DT Mythos ST, as I've heard great things about it from ppl I actually trust in this BS hobby. THAT goes against everything I've ever experienced about that brand, and to me, that's big :D

It's in reference to large floor standing speakers. So large you could bury a monkey or small human in them.:)

Doesn't have to be large floorstanders either. There are small monkeys that would fit into most bookshelves. :)

I auditioned the Mythos and they were really on the short list with LSi. Very contemporary in looks, the speakers sound great from mid-range on up and seem to be very easy to drive. Ultimately I wanted full-range speakers so I eliminated these from the short list.

I auditioned the ST's locally and was somewhat disappointed. I had seriously thought about going for them until the demo.

I did a side-by-side comparison w/ Boston's e100's, and the Bostons really put the ST's to shame, which I was NOT expecting. Granted, the e100's are 1400 more for the pair, but I guess I had heard so many superlatives about the ST's that I expected earth-shattering goodness.

I came away w/ a new-found respect for Bostons though...
