Danes In The House

Finally. The Contour S1.4 arrived today.

danes.jpg

After giving them a first little spin, I can see even more why the LSi9 is such a highly regarded yet under rated speaker. Having owned several pairs of LSi speakers, I was instantly able to hear similarities in the danes. I'm not saying much more than that just yet, but knowing the cost of the Contour Vs. the LSi line I was reminded of what a phenomenal value and speaker the LSi really is.

This weekend I'm going to do some swapping and put my LSi9 in this spot, and put the Contours in the other room with the Rotel RB-990BX and feed them some major wattage. I'm stoked.

I'm surprised at how well the ASL AV20 have done so far with the S1.4. I have a small room, so maybe I'm lucky in the sense that I don't need high volume. I can't wait to hear the difference between 20/25 tube watts vs. 330 or so balls to the wall watts of Rotel power.

    Nice!

Danes like to breathe. Pull them out into the room 2 or 3 feet. The more breathing room they get the more they open up. I have mine in a 10.5' x 11.5' room and they are about 2 feet from the side walls and 3 or 4 feet from the wall behind them.

    Thanks guys.

I will move them up quite a bit when I get the chance. This was just where my stands were with the VR-1. They did quite well where they are though. In the pic it looks worse than it really is in regards to placement.

First I need to decide if I'm going to keep them, then I'll start thinking about additional electronics for them. For my home office which is where this system is at, I really like the VR-1 with their detail and off axis response. They're a great mate for the ASL monos in that room.

I may be on my way out the door again to do some globe trotting, so the danes will most likely see the inside of a box for a year until I get back. We'll see...

    Congratulations on the new speakers.

I had those speakers in the main system for awhile but now have them upstairs in the second system with Rotel RC-980BX/RB-980BX components. I was planning on selling them to finance other components, but the wife will not let them go as they sound too good. In order to better them in the main system, I upgraded to the Confidence C1 monitors.

As others mentioned, proper room placement is everything. The more effort you invest in room placement, the better the end result will be. If you do decide to keep these, I highly recommend the Dynaudio stands. The speaker can be attached directly to the stand which can also be mass loaded. This provided an additional improvement for the C1’s.

    Enjoy.

lookin' good, Phuz! I almost went to S5.4 but changed my mind and went to SF Cremona. Both are so good though.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Awesome man, excellent speakers. Yes they need high current and plenty of open space to hear what they can do. They are rears in the Contour line for surround set up. Excellent speakers.

Congrads man and welcome to the Dynaudio family....

I gues different strokes and all man. I love the Cremonas and think they are a top line speaker but the S5.4 to me sound more detailed and controled with the right gear. I would have picked the S5.4's over them. Why did you go the other way??/ Side by side or price??? They are close and both crazy good man. I love it.

I tried very hard to use the S1.4's for rears, but they were too deep to mount onto the wall brackets I use, so I still use LSi7's. You might be thinking of the Contour S R speakers which have a more compact design and would work for my application.

yes the Contour S R are the smaller version and wall mountable. The S1.4's need to go on the stands which you already suggested. Incedible sounding system. I used to Install Dynaudio on a regular basis. I also own a full Audience series 7.1 including the Sub 500 which is just awesome. I have it blended so well with my mains which are Audience 82's.
I plan on down the road upgrading to Contour S5.4's as I love the way they sound. I dig the older Contour series as well. I have to upgrade my gear first to have such great speakerrs. I currently own Rotel RMB1095 to power 5.1. I don't currently have all 7 speakers connected. I swap out the 82's for wall mount 42W's for fronts from time to time to give my wife a break.

Will do, but you might be waiting a long time. I'm really digging them. Overall sound vs. the price I paid for them, they're keepers. Very nice little speakers.

I bought a pair for 600 bucks shipping incl and when I told someone I work with they were on the way he offered me 800 bucks. So I didnt even get to listen to them, I just picked them up at the postal office and passed them over to him. I bought those and a pair of totem rainmakers from the same guy. The Vans were for me and the totems for my dad so dad got his new speakers and I got a nice 200 buck profit

I've been looking at these but something looks fishy to me

I'd pass on that audiogon listing. I saw the same one and see the same thing you see. The pics look good though. No feedback and an odd sounding description are questionable.

The Sunfire is my first true pre, and I haven't compared it to much except a Music Hall integrated. I can say that it sounded better than the MH as a pre. The MH is on it's way back to Audio Advisor as I type this.

It's a BIG, no frills or fancy stuff, pre with all the options any audiophile would need. I trust Mr. Carver and his designs so I'd say it's top notch, but I haven't had much to compare it to so far in regards to sound. It's gotten good reviews and it's made by Bob. What else is there to know? ;)

Very nice. I look forward to hearing it if the offer is still open. I could bring some tubes to roll in and maybe get davemuel to come. I have a tube pre that wouldn't be too hard to bring either.

The offer always stands bro, but unfortunately I'm preparing to head back overseas in a couple of weeks. It may have to wait another year until I get back.
