i have a pioneer elite 42'' plasma right now. im trying to sell that, and pick up something with nice deep blacks good for movies, and i play a TON of video games. "that's the main reason im selling the plasma, is the burn in issue) so, i was thinking a nice rear projection or LCD either would be ok. so, my question is, if i ask for 1300 or so for the elite, what kind of tv would you guys suggest?

Nothing, there isn't anything on the market today thats better then it. You will down grade.
If your careful Burn in isn't a problem. I have many customers that play video games on there Elites with no problems. Just make sure you calibrate the tv correctly .
If your heart is set on getting rid of it and getting a safe Video game tv, Get a Sony XBR LCD. They are the Next best thing thats non plasma.

I'm tv shopping too. Sold my big rear project Sony (low resolution).
I like the Sony XBR LCD quite a bit (1080P).
The question I have is that you seem to prefer Plasma's.
Yet, I think all the Plasmas are 720P.
Is a 720P plasma better than a 1080P LCD?
Personally, I like the glass face of a plasma better than the soft screen of an LCD. Occasionally, I like to clean my tv screens with windex. Lots of stuff comes off my CRT's.
Do you prefer plasmas or lcd's? And, why?
Thanks.

Plasma's come in 1080P now. What is your sitting distance from your TV?? There is not to much content in 1080P. It all depends on your budget.
Pioneer #1
Panasonic #2
I bought a Panasonic 75u and love it if you are on a budget I would reccommend this set. It is still breaking it in with low settings and the pic still looks good to me. Check Fry's web page for prices.
Lcd were to blurry for me. Go look for your self. Video is like audio everyone is an expert when writing buy let your eyes and ears guide your purchase.

I own a LCD 45 inch Sharp 1080i for my bedroom and thats the only place I would use it. It's hung on the wall with HD cable, Progressive DVD (480p sony) and a VCR for old family video and such. It totally sucks **** at VCR , it totally Sucks **** at DVD in Progressive and HD tooks incredible but only with slow moving video. Sometimes the HD video looks very deep and clear but if the video isn't perfect, the tv looks like ****.
In the future I plan on replacing it with a 50 inch Pioneer Elite.
As far as the SONY XBR, it's the best in LCD I feel. I have seen them all and the Sony's are very very good. Sony gave up on plasma for whatever there real reasons where and I think they should have continued with that but there LCD's are well worth it not to mention they have a killer 70 inch thats just totally awesome for gaming and Blue ray. Killer set.

so i was just looking at the Sony SXRD models and i have to say, they are pretty nice. i mean, nothing like the freakin' elite, but still very good for what i need it for really.. it's the 50''-er so im gaining 7'' and still paying nothing, since im selling the tv for what the new one is going to cost me. what do you guys think about the 50'' sony XBR1's? any info on experience with it?At Home:

I'm not fan of the LCD's because of their poor black levels. I'm not a fan of plasmas either but they do have better picture. I'd put my money (and I have) on DLP. They are cheaper, have better picture than LCD's and I personally feel it's better than on plasmas too (I know a lot of people won't agree). Samsung and Sony were close in quality which leads me to believe the LCOS is much different from LCD, but choosing Samsung was easy based on price.
1080 is definitely worth it IMO. -
depending on room size, and space. You can upgrade to front PJ, the epson 1080p is about 23-2500 and is a superb projector or you can go LCOS and go with the Sony Pearl for about 3000. If you dont know the SOny is fine a projector and right on par with the JVC HD1, the most highly recommended PJ on the market under $10000. Paired with an 88-92 inch carada screen and you just made a dramatic upgrade. I play a ton of video games as well, just played Call of Duty 2 on a 90 inch screen and it was sick guy. I cant wait to get the 126 inch screen in place, oh its really on. Something to think about, if your room is ideal for it.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

LCOS means Liquid Crystal On Silicon so it's quite close to LCD. Steer away from the 50" XBR1 because it doesn't actually take a 1080P input it only upscales everything to 1080P. So the highest resolution picture you can feed it would be 1080i. I sold in the past and thought it was a stupid thing to do but that's what Sony made them do.Samsung UN46C7000

Turn off the TV! Leave the game on. I think plasma's are much warmer, and have great color depth. All LCDs and Plasma's degrade with usage. My computer screens have all slowly lost the contrast over time. Plasma's get a bad rep from the early ones. Most people I talk to that have experienced both like plasma's more. Stay away from DLP. Rear projection TVs have bulbs just like projectors that need to be replaced. Also there can be issues with alignment with the projection TVs. If you have a glossy screen you may need to adjust your lighting to avoid glare. I like the glossy look. Like stated above adjust TV for gaming.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Based off of what I've seen from the Sony 32XBR4, it's going to be worth the wait for the 40/46" XBR4 or 5 series that come out next month. Incredible 3D image and very smooth.

fireshoes, when I bought my KDL40V2500, I compared it with the XBR2 and XBR3, and have seen that, other than nice bezel (that gives the floating screen impressions) and pictures enhancements (which I was told to cause artificial unnatural look to the pics, hence it is better to be turned off), so I didn't see it worthwhile to spend the extra dough. However, I am sold on the LCD technology, and was considering the 52" to replace my Pioneer Elite RPTV. Now that you mentioned XBR4 and 5, should I expect a better Bravia engine and cosmetic beyond the last year models?I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.
