Expensive as hell but seems like it's going to be a really nice player, especially with the Realta HQV video processor.

With Samsung's official announcement of their combo-player it'd be foolish to go out and buy a single format player at this point in time, and at that price, nearly twice that of the Sammy, no way.

In another year or so will most likely see more and more manufactures coming out with combo-players. I was planning on upgrading my Sammy BD-P1000 but now I'm going to wait and upgrade to a combo.
    If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

"combo" is the magic word that sounds like a glorious song to me...! :)
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

This is the beginning of the true high end blu-ray players. So I wouldn't judge it too harshly in comparison to something like the combo players that will likely have decidedly lower specs for including two formats. The DVD-5910CI is $3800. So in their line, this is somewhat middle of the road pricing that includes the 10-bit realta chipset. My big beef with this is that they didn't include dvd-a and sacd. Even if they had to charge a little more, it might be worth it to the audiophile crowd that might buy the thing. What I really wonder is if we will now start to see dvd-a and sacd replaced by high definition music disks encoded in the new lossless HD audio formats or if this was just a careless omission on denon's part?

nice player.. but i'll wait for this one to reach version 3 before I'd even consider it. plus as mentioned already.. a combo player really would be better

Combo players will not have the realta HQV video processor. Even the top of the line toshiba xa2 only has the reon-vx which is a spin-off of the higher grade HQV chip. The xa2 and the denon are going to be marketed to very different crowds than the combo player set. One consumer wants some sort of guarantee of not being left behind in the format war. The other consumer will want the very best in video quality processing that money can buy.

I'm happy with what I have now, essentially two entry level players, but I am glad to see Denon finally bring one of the formats to market. I loved their 2900 DVD player I had, and I eagerly await the day that I own one of their high def players. If they can do a high quality combo player someday, I will buy it. Until then I don't mind having two seperate players.

I'm suprised Denon took this long to get into Blue ray and high end. They usually are the front runners of all new technology.

Pioneer Elite has the 94hd and it smokes the other players on the market. I have personally tested all the new players and it does have the clearest picture. Blue ray in it's cheapest form still looks impressive. Pioneer just takes it to another level. I believe this Denon will do the same thing.
