+1. I think you could get a Rotel PrePro and matching surround amp at that price level. -
I'd say screw the HDMI switching and buy a B&K AVR 507 series 2. Of course I'm biased because that's what I did!DKG999
HT System: LSi9, LSiCx2, LSiFX, LSi7, SVS 20-39 PC+, B&K 507.s2 AVR, B&K Ref 125.2, Tripplite LCR-2400, Cambridge 650BD, Signal Cable PC/SC, BJC IC, Samsung 55" LED
Music System: Magnepan 1.6QR, SVS SB12+, ARC pre, Parasound HCA1500 vertically bi-amped, Jolida CDP, Pro-Ject RM5.1SE TT, Pro-Ject TubeBox SE phono pre, SBT, PS Audio DLIII DAC -
Do many/any affordable Pre-pros have HDMI switching right now?
I might be selling my HK 635 while it's still somewhat valuable and get by with a slightly lesser AVR until HDMI 1.3 is more prevalent on pre-pros.Stereo Rig: Hales Revelation 3, Musical Fidelity CD-Pre 24, Forte Model 3 amp, Lexicon RT-10 SACD, MMF-5 w/speedbox, Forte Model 2 Phono Pre, Cardas Crosslink, APC H15, URC MX-950, Lovan Stand

I have that marantz receiver (sr8001). I absolutely love it!.
It's excellent for movies and music.SRT For Life; SDA Forever!

I would do a cheaper one that does the switching, and add a 2-7 channel amplifier, depending on what you will use the rig for.

IF you had?Onkyo 905, of course!

THX is a bs that Lucas corporative machine has created to get money for 'certifying' some receivers. It is not a decoding method/standard such as DD or DTS, just a bunch of tests that any good modern receiver will pass with flying colors.Panasonic PT-AE4000U projector for movies

...as well as a processing mode which some members find beneficial, such as myself.
I don't think I would buy a new receiver now unless I had to. I would wait to make sure 1.3 is the new format before making the jump and then finding out they decided to go with something different for the newer formats. -

People still care about THX?
$2000=Separates
THX=Nadda (personally if it has the logo great, if it don't great also) But little do you guys know that between Audyssey and THX DSP's, their has been alot of progress. And a "THX ULTRA 2" piece of equipment would make me run screaming in another direction.

Hmmm...... I would probally buy a used lexicon MC-1 for in the $1000.00 range then have a 7.1 analog bypass done on it from a fellow by the name of shawn fogg over at the lexicon forums for an additional $275.00 this way you will be able to listen to any multi channel format out there via the analog inputs. and buy a seperate HDMI 1.3 switcher box for video, if I felt I needed it.
Then take the $750.00 or so I have left over for a decent used 7 channel amp. You would have a very nice systen that was in the 10k range or so new retail value for $2000.00 Or you could buy a $2000.00 receiver that in 3-4 years will be worth maybe $500.00-$750.00
REGARDS SNOWWell, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all -

hmm. You guys got me thinking good. I could pick up 5 more Outlaw mono-blocks (which I love) and get a good 7.1/hdmi processor, this takes me over $2000 but buying the Outlaws is good because I can afford to pick up about 2 a month for 3 months.
So the questions goes to... Is there a processor out there that has as many features as say a Onkyo 905 without the amp?
I almost with Onkyo would release a version of the 905 for just pre-outs.Testing
