hey,
i'm not sure what I need. I think I want a 5-channel 80 wpc/8 ohm.
my receiver is a Denon avr 3400. I am pushing LSi9s(fronts). Currently it pushes them effortlessly but I think all the cool people have an amp so i need one too.
Can I get a starter ampfor $500 or so?

You could just spend that $300 - $500 on a good stereo (2 channel) amp for the 9's, then add another 2/3/5 channel amp when you get the rest of your speakers. That way you can give them the power to really open them up. 80wpc might not be a big difference from your Denon.

I know there are several brands that make both 2 and 3 channel amps so you can keep from having too many different brands/sounds in your system. Or, you can do the mono block route.

Check out B&K. They have good stuff for reasonable prices. I've owned 2 of their amps and loved them both.

Currently it pushes them effortlessly but I think all the cool people have an amp so i need one too.

This is the reason I jumped into separate amps. Thought my 635 pushed my Monitors fine, but adding separate amps took it up a notch, especially for music. If it did that for my lowly monitors, you should see an even greater jump in quality with separate amps.

Cool people have amps. Really cool people have really big/powerful amps.

80wpc is not going to do squat for the LSI series!

If you insist on being cool, I suggest you start reading up on what is generally recommended for power on the LSI's. If you don't want to cough up the money to get decent power, get rid of the speakers.

It's not about being cool, it's about giving the speakers what they need to sound & operate best.

Read up on what everybody else says you should push these speakers with. That NAD will sound nice but will not give LSi speakers the oomph they need. Go for an amp with at least 200wpc into 8 ohms.

I have a B&K AVP5000, you can find those well below $500 used. Great match for LSi's.

Maybe a little over your budget, even used, the Marsh A200 amp really makes the LSi9's sing. I was experimenting with different power amps I had with a new to me pair of LSi9's. The A200 is 120 wpc, loads of reserve/dynamic power, and very good tonal qualities. If I were using the LSi9's for music only, the Marsh A200 might be my choice. It's overkill for HT in my opinion, but it really made the LSi9's come alive, even when compared to 200 wpc + amps I also have.

I don't disagree with that. However he asked about 5x80 stating his AVR pushed them effortlessly (to him).

Even though the linked amp was a little above the price target with an extra channel,I imagine mox is just starting research.

I simply was giving an FYI on it.

    LSi9's are 4ohm speakers.

    I'll second WilliamM2's suggestion;
