Reciever Volume?

Just connected my Polk Atrium 60's to my Onkyo SR605 for the first time. We've been under construction so this is the first thing I've hooked up. No internal surround speakers yet to the receiver.

The speaker sound fine, but I need to listen to them at 75 out of 100. If I turn it down, I get now sound from 45 down to 0. I went to the main speaker hookup and zone 2 with the same problem. I'm sure this is more relevant as an Onkyo question but just seeing if anyone had any similiar experiences.

Thanks.

that's not uncommon with modern day receivers.. back in the olden days.. you'd turn a receiver up 1/4 turn and your ears would nearly bleed.. today's audio video receivers aren't like that anymore.

mine is the same way.. from -65 to around - 40 i hear almost nothing coming out of them.. from about -35 to about - 20 is very normal listening volumes for me. when i want to really crank it. it's usually from - 18 to about - 5

not sure why it is that way.. but what you are experiencing is very common

i hate that, too... the DVR boxes supplied to me by a large provider have very low volume output when compared to, say, a CDP. the big problem here is that there sometimes isnt enough available gain to drive the amps to mood-appropriate volumes (as it hits). it literally "runs out of knob". this seems especially true for the digital music channels, which makes them all but pointless.

    1 down, 4 up....

Yep, ditto. And the upper 20% of the volume increases dramatically.
