Is it me...or does anyone else think HDMI connection are too fragile? They either move too much, and loose signal...or they break too easily. You would think that when they made these connectors, they would have designed them to be more durable...needless to say I broke my HDMI connector on my DVD...so I have gone back to component...I've noticed a little loss in color saturation...pisses me off.

Maybe they will improve it????

    that's advancements in technology....

maybe the next generation of digital connectors will be better built.

It's all those little pins inside that are the culprit and the reason for so many bad cables. It almost doesn't matter who the manufacturer is. If they are compressed terminals with some sort of stress relief, then they are a little tougher. Without that, you have to be careful with the degree of angle that you come out of a DVD, TV, etc, or it will pull the tiny pins out of the wires. I still use component video on everything I have because, well, it still looks fine with me even thought I have an HD satellite receiver, HD TV, HDMI output DVD, etc.

yeah...i've concluded that component is the way to go for now until I absolutely have to go to HDMI ie 1080p at some point. I use to wonder why my HDMI signal would go in and out on my DVD player...I think I cracked the little plastic connector at some point and that's why my signal would go in and out. I really like the DVI connectors as they are screwed in and will hold in place...much like a printer cable. The next gen connectors should be made this way.

I doubt we'll see much of the screw in style connectors in the near future. A lot of connectors (mostly for computers) started out that way and now they too are going screwless (eg. serial -> usb).

I just hope they make the future connections more durable then...like USB.

You know DVI had the connector right. They sucked at everything else. HDMI has the ability right but the connector sucks ****. It's like S video all over again for me. It falls out , if you buy higher end cables they fall out even worse due to weight.
They are picky with what you connect them 2. When it was rolled out, so many devices didn't play nice together. That sucks even more.

I personally hate HDMI. I use it in my home as it's the best going right now but they should have did something better with it.

Sucks but it's a need for certain things...

Component video is the lesser of both evils...Lots of wires, but I don't have to worry about cracking my connections, or losing my HDMI connections if I happen to tweak some things with my connections.

I used to lose my DVD picture during some movies...or the dang thing would come up at all...And I find that the switching with component is much cleaner.

They could have kept the component connection into the digital age. It has plenty of bandwidth to do anything going on today and into tomarrow.

Really? I always thought there was some type of limitation with Component, and that's why they switched.

So was HDMI then driven by the need to clean up all the wires? Rather than having a stable, well connected wiring? Seems odd.

there are no limits with component video connections.. it can handle a High Def signal.. it's analog though, whereby DVI and HDMI are digital signals of video. both have the bandwidth to carry a high definition television signal/video

So will the sources of the future send 1080p over component, or just HDMI?

And will they send HD audio over digital coaxial/optical???

video and audio sources for home theater will be HDMI for some time to come.. all digital.. I believe component will still be around.. as it's the highest quality of analog video, but can still transfer a high definition video signal, very close to HDMI.

I can assure you the brainiacks are working on a yet undetermined type of next generation connector/cable that will be more high definition audio and video. of course though, it probably won't be compatible with current HDMI.

I think part of the demand is driven by the masses. When shown 3 component rca's followed by 2 analog rca's, their eyes haze over and they go running for the hills. Then, somebody showed up with hdmi and said it'll do video and audio right into a Samsung DLP and the masses rejoiced while the rest of us grumbled about cheesy connectivity, new pre's, and new receivers among other things.

I've had great success with 2 HDMI blades in my Panny plasma. Both are hanging vertically with nary a lick of trouble.
