Subwoofer hum from RT1000P

I have 2 RT1000Ps. Both are wired using option 1 (speaker wire to upper binding posts with jumpers in place). I have only been using the powered subwoofer in the left speaker, but today decided to turn it off and turn on the right one as it is closer to a corner in the room and I thought it would have more of an effect.
To my surprise, the sub in this right speaker is constatntly generating a hum when the sub is turned on (switched to auto). This hum persists even if I disconnect the speaker wire (but leave the speaker plugged in to the ac outlet). I've tried plugging the speaker in to different AC outlets, but the hum occurs no matter where I move it to.
What are my options? Do I need a new sub? How do I go about getting the needed parts given the age of these speakers (over 8 years old)?

I have owned all of polks speakers with built in subs, and can tell you at one time or another, they all hummed. Not because of a defect in the amp section, but mostly due to grounding issues. So check on that before running out to replace the amp in your speakers.Sometimes it can be as simple as the outlet you have it plugged into.Sometimes it's as simple as a 2.00 cheater plug from home depot. And sometimes...on those rare occasions...A bottle of Jack and the volume control will fix it.:)HT SYSTEM-

Hello,
It is probably best to remove the bass amplifer from the speaker and send it to Polk Audio, 2550 Britannia Blvd., Suite A, San Diego, CA. 92154. To remove the amplifier you would unplug the AC power cord and take out the 12screws that go around the circumference of the amplifier's input plate. The complete amplifier assembly will come away from the cabinet. There will be a small cable coming from the LED, on the front of the speaker, to the circuit board that can unplug from the circuit board. Also a positive negative wire that goes to the internal 6.5" woofer can easily be disconnected. Then send us the amplifier along with a short note giving us your name, address and a daytime telephone number.
Regards, Ken -
^^ Holy hell, Ive never seen customer service like that, especially on forums.
Funny thing is that Ill never see it, after 10+ years with Polks, Ive never had to use itTesting
