so i decided to take my cheap sony turntable apart and bypass the internal preamp. My Adcom pre has a built in tt-pre in it so I said what the hey. was super easy, took me about 10 minuets to do(it took me longer to round up tools:eek:) I took the pre amp board, and remover the wires from it, then took the left and right lead from the tone arm, and soldered them directly to the RCA leads. I took the ground wire from the tone arm and connected it to the rest of the grounds, which I soldered another wire to and hooked up to the ground post on the back of my pre amp. I'm not sure what cartridge is in it, I only know the stylus has been replaced, with what I don't know, and I do not see any markings on it.
First impressions:
The treble is more detailed, and a little bright, but not overly bright. Center stage images are solid and pinpoint( the singer does not sound as if they have a 4 foot wide mouth). The sound stage has also widened I now have a sound stage from the turntable that reaches out side of my speakers. the bass is a little more laid back:( , but diggs deeper:cool:. All in all every thing has more resolution, not leaps n bounds, it's a marginal difference, but I can pick it up and that is all that matters. I've only done a brief listening, but I think this is a change I will be will be living with.
Now just to see what settings work best on my Adcom.
Later,
dude
