Professional wrestler Chris Benoit was found dead along with his family this afternoon in his Atlanta home, according to published reports.

The Atlanta-Journal Constitution is reporting authorities confirmed that Benoit, 40, his wife, Nancy, and their 7-year-old son were found dead at the home on Quarters and Redwine roads in Fayetteville.

The Montreal-born Benoit, who moved to Edmonton when he was 12 years old, lived in Sherwood Park as recently as May 2000.

World Wrestling Entertainment issued a release over Benoit's death.

"World Wrestling Entertainment is deeply saddened to report that today Chris Benoit and his family were found dead in their home," the statement reads.

"There are no further details at this time, other than the Benoit family residence is currently being investigated by local authorities.

WWE spokeswoman Cheryl Kong in Toronto said Monday night’s “Raw” TV program would serve as a tribute to Benoit and his family.

Benoit was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles over his career.

Benoit was scheduled to wrestle at the Vengeance pay-per-view Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called “personal reasons.”

    Dude, that totally sucks.

I was in Hawaii when the WWF was there for taping RAW and Smackdown and Waikiki was crawling with pro-wrestlers. I met him at a sports bar by the movie theater. He was watching hockey (go figure) and having a beer. Not many people realized who he was but I had to be a loser and stop and say hi. He was one of the coolest people I ever met. I couldn't stay and talk because I was with a bunch of people so I only got to shake his hand and tell him I was a fan. The exchange was short but I can count on one hand the number of celebrities that were as genuine as that guy. It's a tremendous loss and what's worse is his beautiful wife and kid went with him.

    Godspeed Benoit Family.

Yeah, considering he was on TV last night and they canceled the RAW taping for a 3 hour Chris Benoit tribute.

remember the good old days? when if you were pissed at the wife and kids, you'd either

    a) suck it up

    b) effectivly communicate the issues and resolve them as a family

    c) communicate innefectivly and argue like hell for weeks, and then forget what you were arguing about........ or

    d) take a sh*tload of cash out of the bank, fly to Vegas and spend it all on hookers, gambling, and blow if applicable.

is d a bad choice, and frowned upon by good family men? absolutly, but let us not lose sight of the one silver lining in the cloud, that the wife and kids ARENT FRIKKIN DEAD!!!!!!!!

call me an insensitive ****, but I had to get that rant out

I'm glad you're all tired of psychopathic murderers. Really going out on a limb on that one, huh?

There's a lot of people in the world, unfortunately there's bound to be some nutjobs in the mix, and there's going to be more and more as the population gets bigger and bigger. Wave goodbye to the "good old days" that live only in your mind.

for as long as there are psychopatic murderers in the world, I shall revel in talking smack about them. just come to acceptance, it makes it easier to tolerate :D

Just because there there, doesnt mean its wrong to call them out as wrong. should we just ignore it and not care?

p.s. I am well aware of the nutjobs in the mix, but hey, thanks for the educational tip:rolleyes:

Just saying, getting yourself all worked up over something like this is pointless. There's no logic, rhyme, or reason to it, and there's nothing that can be done, especially after the fact. It's very sad for the innocents that were killed, just say "that's sad" and move on. Ranting that a complete psychopath didn't do what he "should" have done makes no sense to me....

Don't know if true or not but I heard wifey had an affair before. Maybe she did again and the 'roids put him over the top. I'm with you all, kill yourself, nobody else. Especially a child. Selfish and sesnseless.

I wouldnt call it worked up, I'm just exploring other options for those desperate enough to do what Benoit did.

If we look at it objectivly, I'm merely posing the possibility of a redirection of the psycopathic behaviour. there are so many other self destructive , yet entertaining options other than killing the innocent.

    lets see...........let me think.

    1) this involves black market viagra and a plane ticket to thailand. not going into more details

    2) Kill OJ, I mean really, if your GONNA kill someone, make it count. either OJ kills you in self defense, or your a godamn legend. How do you go wrong?

    3) taunt a random heavyweight mixed martial artist, say Gonzaga, Silvia, Cro-Cop. Call them a P*ssy and just start swinging. At least you'll die like a man.

    4) Become a masked crimefighter. Hell....Benoit was halfway there with the whole pro wrestling thing. wear tights, buy mask, beat criminals. whats the worst that will happen, they kill you? hee hee.

    5) take up parachuting, first solo jump, leave the rip cord alone. Ride of the Valkries blasting through a pair of headphones would make this glorious. not productive, but no blood of the innocent lost.

I can go on all day, the possibilities of **** to do when you have lost all hope are endless. i dont condone these options of course, the 1st one is particularly wrong on many levels, but as I said, far superior to killing the fam.

moral of the story, why waste waste the freedom of not caring about yourself and others on the boring and mundane killing of defensless women and children, do something cool and worthy of note. I swear, there is just no originality anymore :p

Sad,, local authorities are saying that it is a murder/suicide, the wife and child were "suffocated" and that Mr. Benoit apparently died of strangulation(cable/wire from a piece of exercise equipment) no note/other details. If these reports are true,, I just don't understand it all,,sad day indeed. :(

Geez, wow, you guys are really amazing, you know that?

First off, there is nothing wrong with being a fan of wrestling. If anyone is going to say that being a fan of wrestling supports drug abuse and violence just save it. That's an asinine argument and there are many wrestlers that have gotten through an entire career without abusing steroids. On top of that, there is no proof nor accusation that Chris Benoit is or ever was on steroids.

Secondly, Who is getting defensive about being a wrestling fan? If you are going to look down your nose at someone and judge them because they enjoy the entertainment that is wrestling then expect to get a backlash. Not because of wrestling but because you are slinging a personal attack at someone over a TV show. Anyone would take exception to that over anything, not just wrestling.

Also, all I can do is tell you what I know. I found the guy to be alright. I don't know him personally, I only shook his hand, told him I was a fan and left it at that. The entire exchange took minutes out of both of our lives. He seemed genuinely happy to meet a fan and was as pleased as I was to have the exchange. I was not wrong in my assessment and judging by the professional opinion of many others, he wasn't a bad guy. We don't know what was going on or what he/she/they were dealing with. Was it wrong what happened? Yes, it was. Does it mean he was a bad guy? Not necessarily. It's obvious he had a bad go of things for some reason. Why, we don't know.

For all we know, the wife smothered the kid and Benoit lost his mind, strangled her for doing it and after losing his family, decided to take his own life. After all, she was a wrestler too and according to other posts in this thread, she was likely just as unstable, right? We won't know for sure until the police reports are finalized. I still think it is a sad loss, whatever the reasons and I'm not going to trash him out of respect for his family. I am left wondering though, why? I'll still pray for them and I hope they find their peace.

First off, there is nothing wrong with being a fan of wrestling.

Not at all, perfectly normal for the 5 - 15 age group.
Does it mean he was a bad guy?

Sorry, but anyone who could kill a kid, especially his own, is a bad guy. I don't care what his excuse is, or what he was dealing with.
For all we know, the wife smothered the kid and Benoit lost his mind, strangled her for doing it and after losing his family, decided to take his own life.

Actually, the police say there was some time between each death, and the wife died first. There goes that theory.
