If you can't find more than 4.586 SACD's on there that you like......well, I'm afraid there's not much hope for you.

I have noticed the Redbook CD's which have been remastered using the DSD process sound quite nice, excellent actually.

In many cases the re-mastering includes going back to the original tapes and then going to DSD. This is one of the reasons that it sounds so good. Redbook audio is a compressed format in the sense that the analog smooth waveform is lost and is replaced by a stepped digital approximation. There are many mastering engineers that think the high resolution audio is almost as good as analog but that Redbook audio is nowhere near as good as analog (high quality tape including 2 inch and LPs.

dunno about that, I went through a lot of SACD's. Its basically like looking at the old BMG list of CD's after you already got your 10 free ones. Scan and scan the entire list and its all crap :(

What are your musical tastes? They must be quite refined to discard so many genres of music. Man, there are some great discs out there from classical to classic rock.

The Rolling Stones released their abcko catalog on SACD a couple years ago, it is recorded in 2 channel only but they are hybrid disks and I do believe that they used the DSD process for the redbook layer.

Almost everyone will agree to the quality of Pink Floyd's DSOTM disk in SACD.

Elton John has re-released his classics in SACD same with Eric Clapton.

If you're looking for a good 5.1 performance and you like classical music, that genre has probably some of the best interpretations and engineering for 5.1.

There's also DVD-Audio, and to make it clear I really can't hear a difference between that and SACD, the bitrates are to high to discern between the two. I do like the ease of use regarding SACD compared to DVD-A.

But, regarding DVD-A, Fleetwood Mac's Rumours album sounds absolutely fantastic and Neil Youngs Harvest Moon disc is very well done (Needle and the Damage Done kicks **** on that particular recording).

I'm sure if there are some jazz afficianados out there, they will chime in to describe their pleasure with the new high resolution codecs as well. Same with blues fans, Keb Mo, Buddy Guy and John Mayall utilize this medium. I have found that most blues and jazz music are superbly engineered and it makes sense to highlight those talents.

Anyway, I was trying to prove a point that there are more than 4 or 5 discs out there that are worth buying and I am not trying to be a smartass, but, that is up to your own tastes in music.

Does anybody know what format (SACD or DVD-A) and other information so I can buy Eric Clapton/Derick and the Dominoes doing Layla in 5.1?

DTS is available only on DVD-A's as far as I know.
Actually there are a few multi channel 5.1 DTS tracks on cd.

Here is a pic of one that I have.

It has to be fairly rare because even though I have seen many different types of this particular album, I have never seen another one in 5.1 dts on a cd for sale anywhere.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

What, exactly, are you looking for?

BTW, calling all that has been released on SACD, crap, is just ignorant.

What is the going opinion now-a-days on which one offers the best sound. I have a few DVD-A and DTS disks now and they all don’t seem to be that different to me. I want to start developing a collection of one type. I just found out yesterday when trying that my PS3 does not play DTS disks but my Sony DVD changer does (as well as my car's system). But my car system does not play SACD's. Seems like they all play DVD-A. Does one really offer the best quality or is that another one of those things like Blue Ray and HDDVD that people cant decide on?
It will be almost impossible to build a collection of all the music you like if you choose only one format. I usally try to buy whatever the highest quality format available is at the time for a album I like. Then be happy with it until I can find something better is all. Limiting yourself to only one format will greatly reduce your options.

Dude, I like most music. I think my main complain is that there is to many single albums. The kinda that have 1 hit on them that I would listen to (from major artists). Most of the music I see in these formats is old school which is fine but if Im going back in that way, I want GH albums (such as The Police in DTS). Maybe if just comes from being pampered with 100 gigs worth of MP3's that were primarily ripped from my own old CD collection.

    Hmmmm....

I keep reading about how amazing the XRCD (which is just a well-mastered CD) of the Eagles' "Hell Freezes Over" sounds. Anyone ever done a shootout between the XRCD/dts CD/regular CD?

sa-cd.net just added listings for the latest batch of Genesis SACDs....the mid 80s/early 90s albums.

The XRCD is excellent compared to the redbook.

The XRCD of BIA is also excellent compared to the redbook, but absolutely pales in comparison to the SACD. I wish they would put the Eagles on SACD.
