Hey, does anyone have one of these handy? Looks like the one in posted in the 'POLK AUDIO - Speaker Wiring Schematics - ALL MODELS' as the cs1000p is actually for the cs350.
I'll hit up the polk cs phone number at 9:00 but have an order with some new caps for my speaks shipping this morning and hoping to get the corrected info to them in time to still have my order get here friday .... so I'm trying to cover my bases.
Thanks for any help.

Well, the always awesome polk cs had the main info I needed when I called at 9:01 but I'd still be interested in the cs1000p diagram if someone just happened to have it floating around.

This should be what you're looking for... I downloaded this from the forums a while back. It looks incomplete to me, but I'm no expertFronts: DIY Statements from htguide.com

Yeah ... that's the one that's listed in the schematics sticky but it appears to have been mislisted. If you look at the 'part description' on the file itself it shows CS350LS. I attached a pic of the actual crossover from my cs1000p before I changed the cap on the tweeter just in case anyone is interested.

Interesting! Call Ken Swauger at Polk customer service, or send him an email with the schematic and the picture of yours. Did you get the cap values you needed from the board? Is there anything wrong with the speaker?

The speaker was fine but wanted to tweak the center and mains a little by upgrading the caps on the tweeters to some of the pretty nice multicaps.
Polk cs has the right schematic it's just that somehow the wrong one got posted for the cs1000 in this section. Reason I was scrambling to get the info was that I'd already ordered the caps based on the schematics and after I figured out the mistake (my friend that was giving me some advice said something about the schematic showing an electrolytic cap on the tweeter and I was pretty sure that was wrong based on polk literature) was trying to get the correct value so they could modify and ship my order in time to get it for the weekend. Didn't have access to the speaker at the time. Called the Polk cs line right when they opened and they had the correct value for me. -
Can you please post a reply with your impressions on the upgraded caps?Fronts: DIY Statements from htguide.com

I'd be interested also, what brand of caps did you use for your project?Carl -
I originally had ordered Hovlands for the center and mains (rt3000p) before I realized I had the wrong value for the cs1000. When I called them back and told them I needed a 12uf found out that Hovland apparently only just started making them (at least in the type I want) over 10uf recently and no one seems to have them stocked yet. I talked to one of their tech guys and he was a fan of the multicap PPFXS so I changed the whole order over to those and also paid the extra couple of bucks to have the values matched (for the mains) and to make sure they were close to the rated values.
I'm very happy with the change so far but haven't been able to do as much listening as I'd like lately. I'm at work now and a little busy but I'll post some of my general impressions over coffee tomorrow morning. -
I'm looking forward to your impressions. Would you also be so kind to let us know approx how much the xover mods were per speaker?Fronts: DIY Statements from htguide.com

Ok. I won't bore you with the many changes I've made to my system over the past couple of years trying to get the 'right' sound for the room and my ear ... but there have been a lot. I've already thrown a fair amount of money at the situation (reletive to my income level at least) and was considering dumping a bunch more on speakers before a semi-local pair of the RT3000Ps came up for a decent price and figured I'd give them a shot since I could drive to pick them up and if I didn't like them resell and probably not lose much or anything. Fell in love with the overall sound and went about tracking down the remaining pieces for what I guess you could call kindof an 'enhanced' rt5000 setup.
Did a major renovation of what was a really ugly basement theater room which involved having a support beam moved (used to be dead center in the part of the room where things really needed to be arranged) and I'm really, really happy now with the room and the system. So ... point of all this is I'm trying to stick with little changes now that improve the quality of the sound without mucking with the actual character .... if that makes any sense. A friend has been doing mods to his personal gear (amps and speakers) for a number of years so he's been educating me a little and giving advice. In the past I've made the mistake of letting my ocd take over and doing too many changes at once ... not liking the overall result ... and then not knowing what the **** to rollback to fix it so my new MO is to try to make just one change at a time so it's easier to evaluate what the changes are doing. This combined with the fact that I'm pretty happy with the electronics I have right now (source, processor and amps) and have just had this feeeeeel ... that there was some more detail hiding down inside those SL6502 tweeters decided to do just a cap upgrade across the front three speakers.
So ... to the point. I've had some lingering issues related to an infected tooth and some allergies that has my inner ear feeling stuffy and a little sensitive ... doesn't affect my hearing much but just makes listening to music at any real volume for more than an hour a little fatiguing ... so I haven't had as much listening time as I normally would have but I do have a few impressions.
Some are somewhat intangible and I'll probably be able to explain these better over time. Some details that I could hear as a suggestion within the music are more distinct now. I was listening to an Alison Kraus live sacd a couple of nights ago and in harmonies I was noticing that previously I'd just hear that there was a harmony going on I could now hear the distinct character of the second voice within the harmony. On acoustic strings where there had been just a suggestion of the sound of fingers interacting with strings and the various other peripheral noises those type instruments make ... now they were more defined and distinct making the instruments sound more real and/or present.
Continuing with the somewhat intangible ... soundstage was already very good with nice depth but everything just seems more in focus now. One striking thing was that previously to get the real 'immersion' feeling when listening to something I'd have to turn the lights down so the brain/eye connection wasn't localizing the music to the speaker to some degree. Now on most of my better recordings the speakers seem to disappear now wihout the aid of darkness. The first time I listened to the previously mentioned Alison Krauss and the applause came in after the first song it actually made me jump a little I guess just because it seemed so ... big maybe .. not sure, it just sounded very different than I remembered.
So ... as with a lot of audio related things the power of suggestion can have a lot to do with what you think you hear or don't hear but the one thing I can bring up that comes pretty close to a nuts and bolts kinda thing is that in songs I've listened to many times before with many, many different pieces of equipment there were lyrics I previously had no clue as to what they were saying where I can now easly discern the words. Even with my stuffy ear which I doubt is doing anything to help that situation.
So ... I'm very new to this type tweaking and have no idea if this is the change I'm supposed to be hearing or how much my pereception is being clouded by the happy feeling I get knowing there are big, expensive caps inside the speakers .... but regardless of where the perceived improvement is coming from I'm liking it a lot.
Sorry for being so long winded. -
For the other question about cost ... want to preface this by saying my friend didn't necessarily think I needed to spend this much but I'm in the process of selling some cables that will put a few hundred in hand so decided what the hey.
Bought them from Parts Connexion and was very happy with their customer service.
I neeed one 12uf for the center and 2 x 3uf, 2 x 9uf for the mains and total was about 225 pre shipping. That's including the few bucks extra to have the tolerances checked and the pair's values matched. The hovlands I was originally looking at before finding out the 12 wasn't available would have been a few bucks cheaper. -
Thanks for replying back with all of this information! This upgrade was something I've been wanting to do, but I wasn't sure if it would be worth it. This would squeeze every last bit of performance out of these speakers and the "good" components doesn't seem to be out of line with price, either.
Thanks again! Unfortunately I won't be as fast with the upgrades as you were, but they will be done at some point. (I feel I need room treatments first.)
