I have a PSW200 subwoofer that no longer is functioning...no sound when turned on...all speaker connections and AC power known to be good. Power status light is not lit when power switch turned to ON position. Help required....is there possibly an internal fuse blown? Thanks in advance

Hello,
Thanks for posting on the Forum. It would be best to check the internal AC fuse. To do this you would unplug the AC power cord and remove the 12 Phillips head screws that go around the circumference of the amplifier's input plate. The complete input plate will come away from the cabinet. If you look where the AC power cord goes through the metal input plate you should see a fuse holder. The fuse is a 1.6 Ampere/250 Volt time delay (slow blow) fuse that is 5mm x 20mm size.

Are you still working on them? Do you know the most common failure is?
TIA, -
Typically the output FETS short. Sometimes its isolated to just these, but sometimes the driver transistors and other active components will get damaged when FETS short. Depends on how quickly the fuse blows.

I am having the same problem. Where does one buy the "1.6 Ampere/250 Volt time delay" fuse

Hi, same problem here with both of my amps. Is it possible to get a schematic so I can troubleshoot them? What type of OPS transistors are they?
-
The output FETs that I use are IRF530 and IRF9530.
If you send me your email address I can send you more detailed information. -

Radio Shack has 2.0 amp/250 Volt time delay fuses that will work. If those blow then your FETS are bad. send me your email address and I can give you more detailed information. -
My bestfriend used to have the same problem too and she ask about it.I also want to know the in formtion regarding these. Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem, diagnosed the shorted power MOSFETS in the output section, then started tracking the other active components. There's a recommended update to the zener diodes that bias the output section. I managed to get a schematic from Polk that noted the zener update that's required to reduce the risk of the MOSFETS blowing. Then I tracked the original amplifier to Triad, and they sent me the actual testing procedure for the amp, along with a better, annotated schematic. BUT THEN, they happened to be doing inventory, and found a BOX OF THE ORIGINAL ASSEMBLED CIRCUIT BOARDS FOR THE PSW200, and offered to sell me one. $30 "as-is", but it saved me a lot of testing and component replacement, which is worth it. Here's the caveats and contact information from Brent Passmore of Triad (the OEM for the amp):
"I have not counted them but we have something like 15 to 20 of those amp boards on hand. You can put that info on the forum but with the following added.
The boards are new but would be sold “as is” with no warranty. Also they will need to find a local repair shop to do the work. I will include the instructions and schematic with the boards so their repair shop has all of the info we have to do the job.
It just is not worth our time to do the repairs here and then have the hassle of warranty if something goes wrong again down the road.

Hope this helps, it took me a lot of work to track this down, but I wasn't willing to trash an otherwise good subwoofer.... -
Just found this I hope they have some boards left. I have the lexan clear version of the psw200 that I tried to fix the original plate amp by replacing one of the output transistors. I bought this while employed by The Good Guys in the car audio dept. Spoke with Art a Polk Audio repair tech. He says most of the time the regulator and output transistors go out. I lost the fuse and bought several from him. Any more info would be great. I'll contact Triad Speakers tomorrow to see if they have any more amp boards left.

My lexan enclosure PSW200 internal amp stopped working and the power led indicator doesn’t light up and the audible thump I used to hear when turning it on is not heard anymore. Hopefully the Triad Speakers might still have one. Otherwise are there other aftermarket internal sub amps thst could fit in there? Or I can seal up the opening with mdf wood or another sheet of lexan of the same thickness and use an external amp with a crossover sub filter 24 db per oct or higher.
