I'm about to simplify the entire HT by pulling the trigger on the B&K AVR 507 series 2. I just don't use my HT as much as I thought I would, and want to simplify it as much as possible. Any thoughts on pros/cons of this AVR? From my research the 150 wpc seems to be "real" wpc and should power about any HT speakers I'm going to have, and have the option to use external amplification if needed. Your thoughts?

Have the 307 and love it.Yes,those are 150 real world watts. The level of fine tuneing that you can do rivals the best processors out there. And the sound is great.Sounds a bit warmer than your standard SS pre.If you can't get along with that AVR,then no other will float your boat.Grab it and enjoy.

Check for HDMI switching. I'd hate to see you drop this kind of change without that key feature.

I've got a 507 S2 as a demo unit, and have enjoyed it so far. If you find a good price on one, B&K always offers upgradability, so you might be able to add hdmi later if you really need it. It can be configured to be dual zone, or as a standalone 7 channel HT receiver.

I've had mine for about a year, and will probably be selling it soon to switch to a different B&K demo model(for nothing more than to show more of their offerings), but I wouldn't hesitate at all to drive LSI's, or any other speaker with it.

okiepolkie - I'm not in any paticular hurry, so if you are going to be selling yours anytime in the near future let me know! I'd rather buy from another CP member if at all possible.

I'm having an open house next week, and I'll have it for sale for a local buyer, as it is a very heavy item, and I would prefer a local sale. However, if it does have to be shipped, it will be shipped very well. I'll let you know what I find out next week.

B&K receivers are one of the very best. There ability to handle difficult speakers is way above average. There sound quality is very clear and open. They also have awesome dynamic range.

The B&K avr507s2 is a very fine high end receiver but it is dated. Whats so cool about B&K is the ability to send it in and get it upgraded. I assume B&K will offer a new AVR soon and have current abilities like HDMI switching, Ipod Interface , maybe even built in XM who knows. B&K is not one to go out in front, if anything like any other high end preamp or receiver, they are way behind todays standards. But with B&K yyou can assure your getting the best sound out of your system. You can't go wrong with B&K. They stand behind there products and so do I.

If you can get a good deal on one, I say "I don't know why you don't own it already"

    Good luck man

Agreed my man, they are definately on the slow side for keeping up with the times. But when they do something, they do it right.SQ is the best you'll hear from an avr period.Quality is top notch, and as close as you can get to seperates in an avr.Actually, may even beat some seperates. This is why I use it as a pre in a combined 2 channel/HT rig. That and the simplicity of use.Anyone who can snag any of their avr's,amps, pre's,at a decent price need only do so and that law of diminishing returns will become obvious.

They may be behind the times in functionality, but so am I :o I run my DVD right into my TV, only have a cable box besides the DVD. I have no need for any video functionality on the AVR. The kids use the playstation on another TV/HT system. The iPod only gets used on the headphone rig (ASL tubed headphone amplifier). So a solid AVR, with solid amplification, supporting the current surround sound modes, with good upgrading opportunities, is what I want. My HT is not really my first love, but I want an AVR that I don't need to replace every couple of years. It can be a little behind the times, like me  Once they decide on one format, I might even move to HD DVD

Doug, that should run the Lsi 9's very nicely. You know since I got the 1C's I haven't even hooked them up again. B & K is solid stuff from waht I've read and if you can get a good deal and help a Polkie out, awesome

I scanned a S&V review on the AVR307 way back when you may find interesting reading. This review compares the 307, Pioneer vsx-39tx, and the Marantz sr-14ex.

Here's the last two pages. What you really love about the 307/507 is its customization abilities.
