Your next purchase?

What is the next piece of gear or equipment on your shopping list? What is the next thing you are going to introduce to your system?

For me, I need to get some replacement drivers for my Amazings, maybe try new interconnects, but after that its going to be a new tube pre. I want to try a Melos pre at some point, but the next pre I purchase, and its going to be a while, is going to be something in the neighborhood of a top notch Cary or similar.

I think my two channel system has reached that point where worthwhile improvements in the gear should are going to require a relateively fairly large jump in price tag.

Either that, or I am going to set aside some money so I can just buy used speakers, try them, and resell them.

How 'bout you?

For me it's a TT upgrade which is already in the works. Then I need to get a good CD player.

Just got a new TT, so need to get that calibrated and figure out how to best clean all these records I picked up.

Just bought a 3-channel B&K amp to replace my 2 Carver TFM-6CBs. Need to store or sell the Carvers.

Might sell my HK 635 and buy a B&K Ref 20, but still on the fence. Probably just keep the HK unless I find a Ref 20 deal too good to pass up.

Need to sell my RT600s and get some Ebony LSI7s (or comparable) and stands for bedroom.

Might sell my XA1 in favor of a HD-A20 or another HD-A2 cuz the XA1 might not fit once I add my B&K ST-1430.

So, kind of a lot of stuff. Keeping my eyes peeled. Oh, and a new 2-channel stand.

All future upgrades in my system will be speakers. I think the rest of my equipment is where it needs to be, but I could definitely benefit from some higher-end speakers. Everything else will be replaced/upgraded upon "petering out" so-to-speak.

I do occasionally think about trying a tubed preamp, just to get some tubes in the mix--but don't know if I'll ever pull the trigger on that, and it's not a priority.

On the video side of things, I'm really interested in High-def DVD, but just like SACD/DVDA I'll wait till the fight is over, the dust clears, and a winner emerges. I know you're saying "but Steve, you don't have a high-rez CDP...." that's right; that's because the dust never friggin cleared, and I still can't find 90% of my music library on SACD. I'll stick w/redbook, thank you. You would think that Sony/Toshiba would have learned their lesson, huh?

Yeah, but at current prices, it's worth picking up at least a cheap HD-DVD player. For $300 (including 5-10 free HD-DVDs, depending on vendor), you can get a HD-A2. I think it's a great little player.

Vinyl is going to kill the CD, mark my words... :)

I'm thinking a nice preamp and some new cables might be in my future, but not this year.

Speakers then cables. Eventually a TT(for those 20 LP's from my youth).

Avel transformer for my AI-1 interconnect. I need to get my speakers taken care of first, I'm looking to add spikes to the cabinets then the upgraded tweeters. After that, a tube pre. Been looking at the Bottleheads, looks like a good way to learn and get a decent pre at a good price.

right now its going to be my lsi7's. But there have been some really good deals on 600 series B&W towers on ebay, so I think if I can get a set of those I'll go with the B&W.

Also want to upgrade to an hd dvd player

I need some woofers. But that's on the back burner for a bit.

Other than that, I want a nice TT, but that's a ways off yet...

I saw a dual format HD & Blu Ray DVD player in Crutchfield I liked, but it's $1200 and I ain't bustin' for it.

Some kind of amp for my meager beginners system, but not sure what or how much I want to spend....

The woman actually expressed interest in a tt, and I showed her a few of the "prettier" ones I've seen on here (hey, aesthetics are the best way to sell electronics to the other 1/2), but that will have to wait until we get moved (hopefully soon depending on if work lets me set up a remote office...)

I dunno, I'm pretty happy right now with everything. The HT has been set for quite a while now. Maybe if I ever run across a good deal on a CS400i or maybe a better power filter. The 2 channel is pretty good right now too. Rebuilt the crossovers on my Mirage last month and pretty happy with results. Again, maybe a power filter/center type of thing. I might also try the stand alone motor for my turntable if a good deal comes around, don't really want to spend $400 on one though. Also, if I ever find a good deal on a Parasound PLD-1100 or PLD-2000, I might spring for one of them and start into the world of separate phono pres. I'm really pretty happy with the Sony ES pre right now though. Its pretty hard to beat in terms of reliability, sound, and convenience. The phono section alone makes me want to just stick with it and be happy. I've got a few mods up my sleeve for the E80ES that should take it a step closer to perfection. Maybe I need to build a new system for the bedroom now that I have a plasma w/HD DVR in there. Nah....
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I went nuts during the Tweeter Going Out of Business Sale, buying LSi's 5.1 (.1 = Outlaw). Now, my fun money fund is empty and I'm saving up for an amp. Next, Oppo so I can play around with SACD and DVDA. None of my friends/family have them and I wanted to hear the difference at home. Yes, all my friends think I'm nuts.

Next, I'm heavily thinking about the Benchmark DAC not just for the Oppo but I'm wondering what my Xbox 360 will sound like playing my lossless music through the Benchmark from my backend terabyte file server.

Lastly, and I am nuts for picking this last, I will probably replace my Yamaha HTR.

Wild card: I have an old TT. Pioneer I think from late 1990's. Gifted. Actually, I've held on to it for a family member for 7+ years so I may just put it to work but I'll need a phono amp unless I buy a pre/pro with it. May just go with a second music only system for my office on days my wife is using the $$$ home entertainment system to watch reruns of Law & Order.

As HTRookie suggested.........MUSIC. The main limitation of my system now is crappy recordings.

Another priority is perhaps to try a different amp. Not really unhappy just looking to mix it up a bit. Probably pure Class A something or other.

At the moment I'm DIY'ing my own speaker cables. Pretty straight forward, Audio Quest Type IV cable with high quality nanner's, cable pants and shrink tube.
