Polk made a lot of 6.5 in. woofers for their monitor series and SDA series speakers that all look the same but different model numbers. Does anyone know the differences between these speakers and if any of them are interchangeable?

What are the new replacement woofers from Polk like? Do they look the same? I think I read somewhere that they're not sticky. I'm sure the originals were sticky for a reason.

There were a few 4ohms versions, and several 8ohm versions. The early MW6500 was very efficient, but bottomed out if overly driven. It slowly worked up to the 6503 which handled more power, and resisted bottoming out. As for the sticky part I don't know if the originals came sticky, or got sticky after a couple years.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. All the drivers are designed with different specs and therefore are not really interchangeable. The original drivers came sticky and as far as I know the replacements are too.

Are the new replacements out already, ie 6510, 6502?

    Why are they sticky?
I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D

Yep; My SDA 1's were sticky the day I bought them in 1983. I'm surprised they haven't dried up after all these years. Some things are just better sticky.:D

It's doped paper, which helps the cone keep it's shape.

Just a guess, But I think it was used as a damping material. Polk literature says they use a three layer cone construction. It must be one of the layers. And I've seen mentioned somewhere before about a damping material used in the cone.

I read somewhere that the sticky coating reduces resonance and leads to cleaner midrange.
