My old boss had a Paradigm Monitor set-up... I could not afford his set-up, but I am very happy with my Polk's.

For me it was Cezac (SP?) speakers as the first really good ones.

My best were the Polk SDA-1C's. I still have these, but don't really have room for them in my current house :(

    hearingimpared,

How did the 300 D's end up sounding. Just refoamed mine. Also any thoughts on a good "voice" match for them as a center speaker.?

WOW Tom it's been over 25 years since I owned them. My buddy never came through with bringing them over so I can't remember the sound signature now. However I remember them sounding great, back then. As far as a voice match for a center, well I have to defer to your own ears.

My first "real" speakers were Polk RTi 600 which I later upgraded to RTi 800 using Circuit City generous 1 year upgrade program. These were the update to RT series which I couldn't forget after hearing at the very first Audiophile store I visited. Because I had to save money through part time jobs while in high school I skipped RT series and got the RTi which had upgraded tweeter and cabinets.

The one that got me hooked was my old man's speaker waaaaaay back in 1978 [or somewhere around that time frame...I was slightly higher than knee high to a duck back then]. The Klipsch Heresey powered by his Onkyo amp with the only sources at the time being a tuna and an old [even at the time] LP player. I was the lucky one who got all of his albums. Thanks Dad! :D

The speakers that sealed the deal came about a year or two later. That was my Uncle Tommy's speakers. They weren't a brand name speaker as he had built them himself and my gawd were they huge. You could probably fit more than 3 dead bodies in each one. He ended up donating them to a church for their auditorium. As far as I know, they are still in use today. Actually, so are my old man's Klipsch's.

My uncle was in the service and brought a system back from Japan in the mid 70's. AR Speakers (AR-4?) powered by a Marantz receiver and fed by a TEAC reel to reel. I'd never heard anything like it. Then I found the Polk store in the late 70's.

A pair of Polk Audio Monitor 10B circa 1985 and a lowly pair of KEF C15 bookshelf loudspeakers.

Russman suprised me with a pair of mint C15 a few years ago just because he knew I liked them....how's that for friendship?
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Klipschorns at Custom Audio in Little Rock, AR back in 1979. I was 13 at the time and was blown away at their size and the volume they had for being ran off of a 10wpc Yamaha amp (I think it was). Of course, I've changed since then.....

Hey, I have drooled there many times! :p That's where I bought my sub at years ago. And where my Dad has probably spent many a dollar!

Speakers for me....was probably a set of Marantz HD towers my Dad had when I was a kid. Don't remember the model number but they were the ones with the foam plug you could remove from the ports.

Dad's Monitor 10A's with peerless tweets (identified thanks to many of you who have taught me a great deal while I linger in the background and read up) I don't think my friend will ever forget when I played his favorite rap song and the PR slapped him in the face. He was like how much can those two small speakers drive that woofer.....wow was he wrong. Too bad dad didn't have 1.2's to smack him in the face with.

Audio Physic Virgo towers connected to an Edge integrated and Rega TT/ Arcam CDP. Was hooked ever since. German speakers are nice, but its the British speakers I seem to have a weakness for.

I bought a nice Fisher stereo system in about 77 (still have it) and then bought Radio shack box speakers with 4" ribbons in them. They were pretty nice I thought and then I went to a guys house who had ESS AMT 1B's. Wow did they show my ears what they had been missing. I own them now but my wife lays claim.

That was great for years and then I heard Polk's Monitor 10s w/peerless:D that I bought at good will about 10 yrs. ago. These rekindled a wickerman size blaze with my interest back into audio...Then came RT3000P's!! :D Then SDA-SRS2's,:D

I still have my stereo review magazines from 1981 on up although I'm missing some earlier issues.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

JVC 3 ways with an active, and passive 12" woofer really started me. The CV's with the big 15"ers got me drooling back then as did my buddy's Optimus 15"ers:o Dream speakers were the monster Infinity's, Carver Amazings, and Polk SDA-SRS's. Carver was the only amp made IMHO back then.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

JBL L100's on a Luxman receiver, with a JBL turntable spinning the Moody Blues.

First system = 80's Sony reciever, Symphonic VCR, 80's boombox speakers, followed by Aiwa speakers, followed by misc other craptastic speakers (Onkyo HTIB & White Van; almost make 1/2 a complete pair), until the TSi 100's, followed by JBL LSR 2328's, followed by JBL LSR 4326's (Soon to be replaced by Dynaudio BM5A's.)

I still have everything above except for the VCR (replaced with an Admiral 4 Head HiFi) and the Sony (replaced with a newer Sony).

That's interesting, I still have a pair of L100Ts...difficult to place but once you get them in the right position look out! They're really home versions of the JBL 4412 monitor...same drivers, crossovers, etc. bigger box and real wood veneer. A bit big and boxy by today's standards. But the mixing speaker of choice back in the 80's early 90's.
