Like Rootbeer?

I've been searching for the best rootbeer on the planet. Yes, rootbeer. Not very exciting, I know, but I don't get out much.
Yeah, A&W, Mug, Barq's etc. are fine, but I'm chugging the "craft brews." Henry Weinhards, Thomas Kemper, Americana, Virgil's, Bulldog. & I'm still searching.

So, what's your favorite root beer? Gimme some names! I've got a couple of other rootbeer nuts and we're going to have a competition.
Thanks!

Boylan's is excellent. Stewart's isn't bad, but I like their Birch Beer better. Dad's in the bottle is very good as is Frostie's in the bottle.

My daily driver is Diet Barq's. Agreed on Stewarts - the best I've found so far is Abita ( www.abita.com ) - but on some occasions, it's just a hair too sweet for my palate.

    Cheers,

WOW! GREAT TIP ON THE WEB SITE! You're my rootbeer hero! You've opened up a whole new world for my taste seeking tongue! Have you ever ordered anything from them and, if so, was it a good experience?

Thanks also, Russman, for your tip as well!

I'm not very well versed in the different offerings the world of Root Beer has, but the best I've ever had is definitely Virgils.

It was Twin Kiss, a franchise drive-in kind of place in MD and PA way back when. Last time I was in the neighborhood, there was still a Twin Kiss somewhere north of Harrisburg, PA (en route to Bucknell).

When I was a lad, they sold root beer to go in 1 gallon brown glass jugs, and it was bitchen.

EDIT: Well, there's still a Twin Kiss in Westminster MD... which I should've remembered, 'cause our son goes to school there! They don't make a big deal 'bout their root beer, so I am guessing they've got generic root beer now.

I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Yes! That's the one I was trying to remember. Good stuff there. Old Dominion makes a good root beer, but personally I like birch beer better. I've had some good ones in Pennsylvania Dutch country, but their names escape me at the moment.

There's a place in Addison (and I think they are a national chain) called BJ's.

Their homemade rootbeer is excellent, IMO, at least for the addison location.

For an everyday root beer I like IBC.

But it's hard to beat homemade. If you have a local homebrew shop they should be able to get you started on making your own. It's really not that difficult of a process, and can actually be a lot of fun.
