Oh goodie, I knew you'd take the bait.......hehe
Let's start with why I'd never check out any link you post here. You have NOTHING to offer, but what you've read somewhere, which means absolutely NOTHING to me or anyone else here. Of course, this leads to further proof of your ignorance to all things audio and further proof that you are a NOTHING!
However, please keep digging as the entertainment value is off the charts.Political Correctness'.........defined

You know that friends, family and career thing everybody talks about? its called a Life. its a nice thing to have. I'd get one, if I were you.
In some cultures life means not being pathetic. but I'm afraid this boat has sailed for you. -
Good Morning there Farts of Self, TNT, I could not help but notice your lack creativeness, getting a bit slow there, I mean I would expect so much more from you than the above redundancy of reply.
Well, maybe a spot of coffee and drink of Jolt and you can do better, but then maybe your accustomed to letting folks down.
Who said that? I said that. I am RT1.

Have a nice day.

I'm still waiting for TNT to bring his keytar to the party and start wailing away some old Loverboy traditionals. He's that cool, don't you know?
Liordra could play cowbell while they both regale us all with songs abouth the seduction of deduction and the seasoning of reasoning.
Thomas Dobly will want his cut though. He failed to wear his sunglasses when he was blinded. TNT refused to loan him a pair.I never had it like this where I grew up. i know i am new here and all, but what the H-E-double-hockey-sticks just happened here?
lol, i for one, have learned not one thing about speaker cables in this thread, only that coat hangers can be used in place of 75 ohm coax if a person were so inclined to do so.
is it my imagination, or do some folks on here seem to really despise one another? is this distaste based solely on ONE online forum? and a smaller, rather inactive one, at that? gee whiz, fellas, thats what they make chill pills for... 'net is big enough for everyone, isnt it?

You got a problem with me using coat hangers?
Chill dude, this thread and all threads started by the simpleton in Post#1 is the issue among a few others. Stick around, there is plenty of good information in this forum on what coat hangers to use, just utilize the search function and you will find salvation.

You win, you whiny pisspoor postwhoring ****. You maturbate with speaker binding posts cause your so called 'equipment' only fits perfectly in this hole size and nothing human sized. Keep your pathetic existence, I'm out, in the real life, where your kind exist for my bitchslapping amusement. So long hoes!I love postwhores, are you one?

Hello Anthony,
As you can see speaker wire discussions can become very controversial and often heated. There are some listeners who place a great deal of emphasis on differences in speaker wire and others, just as vocal, who place none at all. I'll try and offer some useful information that, hopefully, might be of interest.
The connections between the amplifier, the speaker wire and the speaker itself form a resonant system. The amplifier's output characteristics and the speaker's input characteristics combine with the properties of the speaker wire to form a tuned circuit. This might work to explain why, in some systems, a significant difference can be heard and in others much less. The particular tuning result may or may not be audible.
In my opinion, it is the DC resistance of the wire that seems to be the most important characteristic, of the speaker wire, with frequencies below 600Hz. In other words when we are dealing with upper bass and lower bass sounds the resistance of the wire seems to be the most important. When we think of frequencies above 600Hz the inductance of the speaker wire seems to be the most important characteristic of the wire. To me this is one of the benefits of bi-wiring a speaker. You can experiment with different speaker wires for the two pathways. A thicker, lower DC resistance wire for the lower frequencies and a thinner, less inductive wire for upper frequencies. Lower DC resistance wires tend to be thick "zip cord" type wires, two big bundles running side-by-side of high purity copper strands. Low inductance wires tend to be made of smaller bundles woven or braided together to reduce inductive coupling of zip cord type wires. Kimber Kable is an example of a low inductance wire. Just like your speakers are two-way designs with components optimized for each frequency range, your speaker wire can be a two-way design also. Each conductive path optimized for the frequency range it conducts.
Keep in mind this is all going to depend upon the characteristics of the speakers and the amplifier. But, it can be worth the effort.
Regards, Ken -
Wow! Thanks Ken. This is some very useful information.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. I like CAT5 (network cable) for speaker cabling. Several different receipes are available if you search a bit.
I like a twisted pair of 30-ga magnet wire (Radio Shack still sells this stuff!) for interconnects (for line-level sources).
EDIT: Ken, since you weighed in with actual information... what is Polk's "with the benefit of hindsight" view of the (in)famous Polk Cobra Cables? -
I'm with mrh, I use Cat 5 in my My HT system and my PC system. I used to use Canare starquad wire, which I still think is just fine for most applications.
Main downside of Cat 5 is you have to have a stable amp as the cables have a high capacitance. For example I have a Cambridge Audio Integrated which did not like these cables, even with a 8ohm load. It would shut down before I got 1/3 of the way up the volume knob. -
Hello,
I'm glad the information was useful. I use Amphenol twisted pair ribbon cable, a flat wire with 24 pairs of oppositely twisted wire pairs side-by-side. One pair twists clockwise and the other pair, beside it, twists counterclockwise. At both ends I gathered the positives and negatives together and soldered to a solid piece of copper rod. I measured a +.9dB lump at 15kHz with my previous high end zip cord style wire which wasn't there with the flat ribbon wire. A simple procedure, measure the Voltage at the amplifier's end at 40 different frequencies. Then repeat the same measurement at the other end of the wire at the back of the speaker. If the wire is perfect the Voltage will be reduced at all frequencies by the resistance of the wires. But, in my system there was more energy at the speaker end than the amplifier end. The tuning of the amplifier, wire and speakers caused a .9dB increase at that one frequency, 15kHz. Put in the different wire and no increase, same drop in Voltage at all frequencies.
Have fun, Ken -

Wow, I haven't heard "Amphenol" since the late 80s, great stuff Ken!. -
OKlet me get this straight someone uses cat-5 ethernet cable for speaker wire ? boy Ive been hiding under a rock but why ? does it sound good lows and highs ? I never thought about using that stuff .....but like I said must be under a rock:cool: " He who dies with the most equipment wins Right ? "

Here you go bud, a complete guide on how to make Cat5 speaker wire. -
They don't have to be that complicated, though :-)

Boy you learn something new everyday thanks Hearing, like I said before never thought about cat 5 as being good for this ! ....hm I wonder what other uses it has! I have some old stuff maybe tie up the wifey tonight with it see if it works as good with her as it does speakers woohoo !!! " He who dies with the most equipment wins Right ? "

The sorry thing is someone like k can get a new person all twisted before they really know what audio is all about.
Even worse are statements where he and the others like him actually say what people can hear. The test the test the test...gimmie a break........
pitifull, pitifull.......pitifull pitifull pitifull.
