Cherry's are back up and running like a champ.. Now should I take the new ebony 9's and put them in the back "Rear Surround" to replace my 7's or use the new 9's for a 2 channel rig?

    Shannon

Sorry, I was distracted the first time and didn't answer your question...I would try both out once you get the rest of your two channel rig spec'd (if you are building it now) adn see what your ears like...There are a couple of people here that like the 7's over the 9's, and vise-versa....Good luck.

Not everyone on the forum is a "BALLA" like you guy. Some guys have to stretch it to make it work. I dont put warranties on speakers either, but again some people like to put extended warranties on everything. Sort of like a safe zone I guess.

Well -- when your speakers are out of warranty.. and you can pick up a used pair for around 500. While the overall cost may be more...

    Look at it this way...

Lets say you keep these speakers 10 years and blow a midbass and a tweeter.

Tweeters cost... around 90 from Polk. The midbass is around 100+... Thats 190 --- so you have four midbasses... thats 400 --- and around 180 in tweeters... crosovers are probally around 30-50 -- thats around 100 -- enclosures and grills would be outrageous...

500 bucks for endless replacement parts just about - isnt to shabby. If I found a pair of beat up Taylo 7u's for 500 bones, Id buy them in a heart beat for the drivers...

    Nothing about being "Balla"

30 bucks for an extended warranty isnt to bad. I was thinking you probally paid like 200 bucks for an extended warranty.. which I think is crazy. My Mom did that on a camera once... hmmm

This is a good point, sometimes people pay may too much for the cozy feeling of having that warranty...

    Yeah --

And on speakers... I have a great example. We sell Pro speakers - a guy had blown the tweeters in his JBL speakers. JBL said they would not honor the FACTORY warranty because he had used an improper amp with not enough power.

To funny. That guy was a real **** too...
But anyways - speaker warranities are funny. Granted, I have only had to use it one time on Polk and that was with the same problem the poster of this thread is having. Resistor popped right off. Simple fix if you want.

In small stand mounted speakers I value focus/point source more since I like them nearfield.
IMO the LSi7 is more focused and coherent trading off a little bit of extension and dynamics. A decent powered sub can augment that but the 9 can't be more focused and coherent than the 7.

Of course you're in the perfect situation to try both for extended periods.
I'd say plop to 7's in your 2 channel system and run them for a few weeks, no sub (nearfield would be great)...switch to 9's a few weeks...then back again.
Please note what you like about each and tell us what you think.

We guys because space constraints the ebony 9's wont fit in the rear. So I guess my decision was made easy... :( But now I'm going to be in the market for a nice tube type amp to run the 9's. " I have always wanted a 2ch setup so what better time to do it then now?" So if you guys see any good buys be sure to send me a pm... Thanks!

If you have $1400 extra around, Russ has a great tube amp that sounded wonderful on the 9's at LoneStar.

Also, where are you finding all these pairs of 9's for $500? Sounds like a great price. Tweeter closeout?!?

I'm getting tempted to pick up the busted pair at my tweeter. Just waiting for one more price drop.

I'm buying them at American. They only had the display models left. I bought the last NIB pair and thought about buy'n the demo's but I decided against them now that I'm try'n to put together a two channel rig. $1400 is a little bit more then I want to spend at this time.. but I'll keep looking.. I have almost depleted my "Rat hole" AV funds.
