I'm redoing my HT sytem and putting banana plugs in. On my R15s I tried removing the black plastic plugs in the posts and broke the red nut. My question is 2 fold.
1. How do you remove the black plugs from the posts safely.
2. Can I replace the broken red nut? I tried to screw the remaining piece off but it doesn't back out.

Help please Jockos

to remove the plastic plugs.. use a thin blade knife.. doesn't have to be a sharp one. and wiggle it under the plastic plug cap... lift it up and out.. should come out with a little force.

Or drill it out with your drill.. that's what I did a while back. works like a charm. ;)

It is a little easier than that. Just unscrew the nut all the way until it comes off. The plug is just a cap and will pop right off (can use a fingernail). Then screw the red or black nut back on. :)

Many posts dont screw off all the way.
If the post is broken, most of the time you can pull the whole assembly
out of the speaker with a couple of screws. The whole post is normally
held on with a nut and washers, with the speaker lead tied on with a
spade or eyelet connector and another nut. Rarely, the wire is soldered on.
In a few cases, it's mounted directly on the x-over board.
I believe the R series will require a small phillips screwdriver, nutdriver,
or 1/4 inch socket set to remove. Easy fix.
    Check Ratshack for replacement posts.
Home depot has outlet faceplates with posts.
    Remove from cover and re-use!

Thanks so much for posting this... I installed banana plugs on all of my wires, except for the ends that go to R15s - never realized that those "caps" will just come out.

Seems euro power plugs fit in 5 way speaker posts. That's why the idiot plugs
are installed on many modern speakers. Whoops.

Well that explains why polk in their owners manual says that only US owners should remove the plugs!

    Hello Jockos,
Sorry you're having problems with the R15 binding posts. The binding posts are part of the speaker's crossover network, which is found on the other side of the input cup. The crossover network attached to the input cup is part number RE1010-1 and the Club Polk price is $12.80 plus your local state sales tax, no charge for second day shipping. Just telephone 1-800-377-7655 to place an order, mention your Clup Polk membership.
    Regards, Ken
