i notice a difference on my Marantz CC4001 when I upgraded the ICs and power cord. I went with signalcable. Give it a shot, if you dont notice a difference you will at least have a solid cable that looks very good.

I realize you're an electrician and after market power cords probably don't make much sense to you, but suspend everything you've learned about electronics and try it for yourself.

I built my own out of 12/3 SJT (heavy extension cord) and the plug from the big box lumber yard. Sourced an IEC from a local electonic supply house. Took some Dremel work on the IEC, but soldered everything in place instead of screws, shrink wrapped it, and viola', DIY power cord.

I was impressed enough that I built one for each piece of equipment I had. I wasn't expecting anything either. Dropped the noise floor and opened things up a bit.

depends on the quality of the gear i suppose. I've always wanted to know if a powercord would make a difference with my amp, I just don't know if it would justify the cost/labor considering the speakers I power it with.

Do any of you folks in the "YES IT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE" category live in/near Baltimore? If so, I would like to drop by and do a blind "taste test" with you and your fancy power cords.

Seriously. If you can tell the diff more than 50% of the time I will believe you. Other than that, its more snake oil.

Well, the power cord situation here might be a little difficult to conduct blind tests with. My main rig uses 20 amp IEC ends on the gear, which in turn run into 2 separate UPC-200's each with it's own power cord running to the outlets. In addition to that, each time the gear is powered up it takes about an half hour to reach optimum operating temperature. However, the office rig is a possibility for power cord swaps.
