I think all of the people out there that have had a 360 die on them should start a class action suit against microsoft. It just blows my mind on how many people said that the thing just die before the first year.

I believe the PS3 is a going bargain, compared to what the stand alone BR players cost.

A whine about whiners. pot kettle black
Yes, I realize this was going to be brought up when I first started the thread. -
Like I said, I think you have a valid point about people feeling justified in stealing (pirating) just 'cause the retail price isn't low enough for them. But you're on a slippery slope if you're saying that we can't make legitimate complaints about predatory pricing and poor quality control.
My intent is not to criticize legitimate complaints. I am addressing the barrage of whining that occurs on other forums I frequent, where the complaints are far from fair and certainly excessive. Such, as, so and so developer released a map pack... then the whines will be, how dare they even think about charging it.... how dare they not include it with the original game.... cry cry whine piss, gimme it for free. -

Agreed. You do bring up some valid points. Kids wanting their games for free are annoying. What's worse is the amount of teenagers who don't even know the first thing about credit card debt. Teenagers who are supposed to be getting a quality education at graduation think that a credit card is a money tree...pretty astounding...and could explain a lot of whining about games... -

I was with you for most of your thread. But this is a pretty bad example. For Sony, the size of the HDD really isn't too big an issue. $69 bucks gets you into a 120GB hard drive upgrade that installs with a screw driver in 5mins without voiding the warranty. (I already put a 200GB laptop drive in mine.)
Its a decent enough example. MS is releasing a console after the launch with a bigger hard drive. Sony is releasing a console after the launch with a bigger hard drive. And obviously it must be an issue for some people. Sony probably wouldn't release another console to choose from if there wasn't some sort of demand for it. -

Is this becoming an issue with kids purchasing MS points or whatever on Xbox Live? I could see how if you downloaded whatever you wanted to it would add up real quick. Or is this just a statement regarding young adults and their spending habits in general? -

pretty much..but it's not like other companies haven't done the same thing ..
Since Sony allows 3rd party harddrives, how do they get around copyright protections for their movie downloads and stuff?
or don't they offer that on the PS3 yet?Pioneer Elite VSX-53, Polk RT800i fronts, Polk CS400i center, FX500i surround, Velodyne sub -

All of this is rumor at best on the sony side. I think the only 80GB ps3 so far is RUMORED for Korea so they might have got a good sourcing deal with a Korean manufacturer, who knows? The reality is that Sony is going with the 60GB sku for now in the US and has even eliminated production of the 20GB for lack of demand.
But let's say they do switch. 60GB, 80GB no difference in functionality really. But c'mon 20GB to 120GB and charging all those shafted premium owners like myself more than twice RETAIL price (or even the difference in price of the consoles) for the same drive with just some proprietary copy protection software? MS sources those drives for far less than $69 dollars if that's the price I can get one at. They're asking all the premium owners to bend over and take the price pure and simple. -

Just saying that your point about some gamers feeling a sense of entitlement to play without paying is a good one. -
Cheddar,
What's make you think the 20g PS3's were eliminated for lack of demand? Actually, the 20g was their biggest seller and that Sony didn't make as much profit as they did on the 60g model. -

This is just one of many articles that said the same thing:

According to sony, demand was 9 to 1 against the smaller version. And there were reports on this very forum that teenagers were rushing the target registers at launch with the 60GB version with the 20GB going last. I've never read anything to suggest that it was the biggest seller. That would be news. Any links?
Edit:
Here's an older link about retailers starting to drop the 20GB version:

Not sure why retailers would drop the sku if it was their most popular model... -
Where have you been? It's been the talk for some time now that Sony loses more on the 20g model. As requested, here is a link...

I don't have a link for how many units were selling, but there was a high demand for the 20g because of the cheaper price, and they were nowhere to be found. Think about it, Sony discontinued because of the loss per unit, not sales. The PS3 hasn't been out that long.
BTW, Of course Sony is going to tell you that they weren't selling well. They aren't going to tell you the latter.

I'm talking about a link that says that the 20GB was their biggest seller. That Sony loses less money is just icing on the cake if the public prefers the 60GB model over the 20GB.
Also the 20GB versions were the first ones to appear at my local retailers. My friends all got 20GB 'cause the 60GB versions were the first to go. I even remember one of my friends calling me up to say he'd buy the last one on the shelf for me, but I didn't want it. And that's on top of sony shipping far less in the first place. Like I said, one link would settle it as I don't think I've ever heard the 20GB reported in the press as the biggest seller. -
Would I prove everything by suppling a link? I'd guess saying the 20g was their biggest seller is not necessarily true since Sony didn't make many of them, they just sold out quicker.
Do you realize Sony produced 80% more 60g than 20g models at start? Kinda hard to sell more when there wasn't any to be found. -

There still seem to be plenty available on ebay and at about the same discount in price from retail. They don't seem to be in that short supply considering the far fewer they made initially as you say. But I think we've hijacked shelby's thread enough for today...;) -
from all that i've been reading all over the net, only a few wanted the 20 gig version, and that was solely for a blu-ray player. and not too many at that. but most prefered the 60 gig. even demiurge purchased a 20 gig back in the day and sold it for profit, but i truely believe he may have kept it had he gotten the 60 gig version. but what do i know?
