Regarding whiners

I'm going to make this short and sweet...
Not this forum in specific, but in general, across the internet, there is a lot of whiners complaining about pricing of games, accessories, expansion packs, and a lot of claims on how companies should be conducting their business as well as there being a general feeling of entitlement to free content for games.
VIDEO GAMES ARE LUXURY ITEMS. IF YOU THINK IT COSTS TOO MUCH, DON'T PAY FOR IT AND SHUT THE FVCK UP.

weren't in some states you could buy 360 games with food stamps?I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.
-
You got that right. The same can be said for A LOT more items as well outside of video games. Hmmm.Michael

I am not "whining", but I think that if something that is marketed to kids whose parents are supporting them, $600 is a lot to ask for that, warranted or otherwise....Also, If I shell out $480-$500 for a 360 Elite, it better not break like the other series has...I see a lot of people whining about game prices too.....I can see a games like Madden, GTA, and Gran Turismo costing $60-$70, there is a lot of development costs and time put into those...Some of these games, no f'in way.

Right, and the appriopriate thing to do when you see the price is so high is say no thanks and walk away.
-
I only pay 50-60 for the big titles -
Preowned - 60% or so off for others.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

now that Microsoft banned modded 360's from Live, that's all I hear...how game prices are too expensive, so they try to justify pirating games..."if games weren't $60, I wouldn't copy games"...
I don't get that...we're not talking about milk and bread for your kids...they're videogames..

If you can't afford the game oh well get over it, just wait in a year it will be around 50% of what it was at launch. If you can't afford to buy your kids a 500-600 dollar gaming system(like you should really have to spend that much for a "toy" for your kids)tell you kids to go out and mow lawns, do odd jobs, or baby sit for money, and you could help with the rest(besides that your kids will learn the value of a dollar, which many kids do not know in this day and age, as well as responsibility). way off topic but the best first person shooter I think anyone could play would be battlefield backyard Grab a few friends ,a few 1000 paint balls and rock on, ultra realistic graphics, and when the paint ball hits you, you actually feel it, talk about the "Being there" factor, and you get exercise to boot. Screw the games get off you butt and do something it's better for you, alright see ya guys later I gotta go play generals.

I can't afford a Ferrari, does that justify stealing one? Those kids can reason it any way they want, its still theft. Buying less games is an option. Renting them is an option. Whatever.

For the record, I agree with you. Just as I'd agree with the corrollary that anyone driving an Escalade and whining about the price of gasoline deserves what s/he gets. -
I find it interesting that unlike so many other commodities, the price for a video game hasn't really increased in nearly twenty years. If I remember correctly, a brand new NES cartridge was still around $45.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Microshit happens to be the only company I can find that INCREASES the price of a system after it has been out for over two years....The part that kills me with them is they can't even fix the problems of the first series before they release the second one...I am so glad I sold my 360 before it died...What a crap product. -

Thats a pretty lousy comparison. The increased price is for a unit that offers more. Anyways, its a relatively new console still. Its only about a year and a half old. It'll come down eventually, but not for a while, and certainly not before Halo 3 comes out. -

I'd like to think of it more as constructive social observations, and unlike the typical whining I am referencing I try to offer some amount of reason and logic. But, one could call it whining -

If you consider inflation, and the amount of content provided in a current game compared to those offered in the 1980s, one could argue that the prices have gone down substantially. -

And also, just because something is expensive, doesn't mean it won't break. For example, mechanical things do break, aka: Hard drives, drives, etc.
A Bentley will cost you more than most homes out there, but it is still a car that will break. For that matter, imagine telling NASA engineers that their vehicles that cost $1 billion shouldn't have any issues. It just happens.
Considering what you are paying for, and what you get, the prices for consoles are not that expensive.
What kills me is the same people here that complain about prices on consoles are the same guys who are spending $2k / speaker in a 7 speaker setup and have a receiver that that costs several grand. -

How do you justify this to the people the shelled out $399 for the "premium" system? Not so premium anymore is it? I don't give a damn if it offers more, they rushed a **** product to market to beat Sony, and now they release the version they should have the first time.....Too little too late in my mind. -

Well, I would imagine the fact that some premium owners have been playing 360 for well over a year before the Elite hit the shelves might comfort them some. Its not as if the Elite makes the Premium obsolete. If offers a larger hard drive (that can be purchased separately anyways) HDMI connectivity, and a new color. So, its basically the same product anyways. Their purchase doesn't need any justification. -
What do you say to the fact that Sony is eventually going to release an 80 gig PS3 eventually? What is the proper recourse for 60 gig owners? Should I be angry when they release the 80 gig PS3 if I go and buy a 60 gig PS3 today?

I was with you for most of your thread. But this is a pretty bad example. For Sony, the size of the HDD really isn't too big an issue. $69 bucks gets you into a 120GB hard drive upgrade that installs with a screw driver in 5mins without voiding the warranty. (I already put a 200GB laptop drive in mine.)
The same upgrade for the premium costs over $100 more for no other reason than the 360 locks out generic laptop drives from compatibility with their system. They're fleecing their consumers pretty directly there... -
Oh **** ****, why do I even try? Glad to see my thread about whining has become just that.

A whine about whiners. pot kettle black
Nah, he's just offering constructive social observations...unless you don't agree with him...;)I'd like to think of it more as constructive social observations, and unlike the typical whining I am referencing I try to offer some amount of reason and logic.
Like I said, I think you have a valid point about people feeling justified in stealing (pirating) just 'cause the retail price isn't low enough for them. But you're on a slippery slope if you're saying that we can't make ligitimate complaints about predatory pricing and poor quality control. -
I personally don't think this generation of videogames are too expensive..
but I would be upset if my 360 suddenly crapped out on me. It seems this is a pretty common occurence..
Maybe I've been lucky, but I could probably count on one hand the times I've had to return a faulty electronic device..
I've never had to return a videogame system and I've been buying them since the Atari 2600 days..
it baffles me when i read about people being on their 3rd or 4th Xbox 360..Pioneer Elite VSX-53, Polk RT800i fronts, Polk CS400i center, FX500i surround, Velodyne sub
