4 weeks later and here is what is happening.

The repair shop has replaced the light tunnel and something else and say that it is un repairable.
They (the repair shop) say they have to send a report to Samsung telling them that it is not repairable.

Samsung says when they get the report they will decide if it should be replaced or if other repairs need to be done to it.

If it is to be replaced I can figure on being without a tv for another two weeks.

This sucks and it's the last time I take a chance on a new technology or a name brand I am not too crazy about.

Be happy it hasn't been 11 weeks and they are just finding this out...I had a warranty through CC too.....It took another week after it was considered unrepairable to go get a new one.... I went Toshiba this time around...

I really hope they offer me something different but I am dealing with Samsung and the repair shop so I get the feeling I will be watching a Samsung when it is all over.

While I was typing this the repair shop called me and said they are hoping that Samsung will release a new engine to them for installation.

Aparently Samsung is having troubles with their engines and want repair shops to repair them instead of replacing the whole engine. This shop replaced two components of the engine and when that failed they took the replace route.

Meanwhile I would be totally pissed if I did not have an extra tv right now.

    Update....

    Nothing yet.
The repair shop says they have not heard back from Samsung and it will probably be another week or two before they hear anything.

almost 7 weeks so far without a t.v. that cost me a lot of money and no end in sight.

I really don't think I want another Samsung. I wonder what I can do about getting my money back or a different manufacturers set if they decide to replace it?

I would not call it a "Samsung" thing. It's a "DLP" thing. Samsung makes i believe some of the best looking/quality LCD's on the market. I have always stayed away from DLP, was too new of a ground up technology and way to much can go wrong. I have heard nothing but problems from DLP owners. And many knew nothing about what they were buying. Most did not even know they had bulb replacement.
Hope it works out for and you get a nice new TV soon. GoodLuck!

9 weeks into this and I called Samsung this morning.

They said the service center had not sent in a report yet, then they said they would speed things up and send me directly to the replacement department.
I am supposed to hear from the replacement department in the next day or two so we can figure out what to do next.
It sounds like it will be replaced but the girl on the phone could not commit to that.

I really do not want a new DLP after all this, I really hope they will exchange it for another technology.

So now I wait for another day or two to see what will be the next holdup.

I don't think they helped much.

First they wanted to replace the whole engine and when Samsung told them to replace parts I think they were not happy.

So now I wait for a new set. (hopefully)

    So they finally called today.

They have approved me for the exchange, they are offering me a replacement set but they are so far behind with all the problems that I have to wait another 14 to 21 days before they call me back to make final arrangements.
The guy I talked to said I have to talk to the next guy (when he calls me in 14 to 21 days) to see if I can get a different technology than DLP.

This whole thing sucks, I paid a good chunk of money for that t.v. and now it has been a couple of months since it broke and a couple more weeks before I get a replacement.

Sorry to hear about your epic drama, but it looks like there is "light at the end of the tunnel" (best pun i've spun in a while).

DLP pictures have really amazed me. That said, I've read a few accounts on less than stellar reliability. I hope you are able to select your replacement.

So it's been 14 days and I got a call but it is not from the guy who can offer me something different, it is from the delivery guy who tells me he has a set for me.
He tells me it's a 56 inch t.v. and he can bring it by today.

No one called to talk to me about a different set or about a new warrenty. How did I know that would happen.

I really hope the new set comes with all the paperwork I need for another year warrenty.

I guess all in all I am lucky it happened before the t.v. was a year old (from date of manufacture) because we can not find the original reciept.
If it had been over a year since manufacture we would be screwed.

So last night they call and the truck broke down right by my house, they were 1.5 hours late.

The set looks a little different from the original and has a different model number.
It is brand new and seems to work fine for now.

I can't find, but did you get this from CC. If so, I would look into top brass, and cc: the whole lot of them with the injustice you just went through. See if they will compensate you for all your troubles with store credit, and make sure you received extended warranty for new Tele. Wouldn't hurt and you might be able to get some new gear at a discount or free.
