I like them. Not as bright as Paradigm can be, kind of like a Canadian Polk.

I've had several older models, and currently run an Alpha series system for the HT rig.

    Cheers,

Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

A few years back...oh 1993... I was about to buy a used set of Monitor 10s for about $300 when my local audiophile dealer persuaded me to buy psb 300 for something like $130 a piece....a bookshelf speaker that the alpha succeeded as I recall. They are good but not as good as the 10s. A couple years ago (now in the current milennium) I listened to some high end psb's when I bought my Monitor Silver 6s. The psb's were incredible but almost twice as much. As you probably know PSB is Paul S. Barton. Don't know if it is still family owned or not.

PSB has been in buisness since the early 70's and were the first company to utilize the famed NRC for the R&D work. They make some very good sounding products and their entry level models offer excellent value.

Barton is still the big cheese but I believe the majority ownership is by Lenbrook who also own NAD.

The Alpha is a great bookshelf speaker for the money. The Image line would make for an *awsome* high end HT system... The old Stratus line are revered for their pleasing warm sound, and were damn good speakers for their time, the new Platinum and G series, I don't know a lot about... but I understand they are pretty good.

I have owned several PSB speakers, and their sound is very neutral to slightly dark. Their sound is one that measures very well for the money, but is not for everybody because, at least I found, that it was hard to get the emotion that is so important. At the same time, that makes them, at least the Alpha, Image, and the old Stratus, forgiving. I liked them anyway, and I still use a set of Alpha Ts for 2 channel HT...

I always recommend PSB to newbie audiophiles, esp. the Alpha B, since it is cheap, has a great response curve, and are like 92db sensitive @ 8 ohms so you don't need a huge amp.
