60% music, 40% movies. 15x20 (maybe more) room, and its an apartment building, so i don't really want neighbors complaining. my fronts are LSI9s powered by Outlaw monoblocks.

i was thinking Outlaw LFM-2 or maybe HSU STF-2....what do you guys think ?

    Check out VMPS
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Either the Outlaw or the Hsu would be great choices. Go for it.
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50” LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Is the budget $350 or so?

You need something pretty fast to keep pace with the 9's. Polk has a SLEW of new subs coming out, you might want to wait a bit.

If you need to do something now, look at a used Vandersteen or JM Lab.

    Cheers,

I like the HSU but also look a Velodyne and SVS. I am not sure about the Outlaw subs.

HSU STF-2 is somewhere between LFM-1 and LFM-2. STF-1 is the same thing as LFM-2. i read alot of good reviews on these two

My room is about the same size as yours. (18.5 X 16)
I have a SVS PB12-PLUS with LSi9's and it works great for both music and HT.
As for the neighbors, you live in an apartment so the control is the volume and you. I would think that any sub would alert close neighbors if turned up. Good Luck.

Save as few more bucks or get one used but this will be all you need for a sub under a grand. It's fast, very responsive and not overly agressive.
    You look is over.

The sub is quick and responsive. It's as musical as any su you ever heard under a grand. It's ability to blend in with a pair of speakers is uncanny. It's an amazing little woofer.
Built quality is top notch. Much better then most subs on the market at and below it's price range.

I Install this sub all the time and it makes me smile every single time. I'm very cridical on subs. I think most of them suck. This little guy is awesome.

well.....i am not an expert, and i have not listened to any other subs...: ) i trust forums almost 100%.....that said, i like how Dynamo blends in with LSi 9s while listening to music. and the other best thing is i paid $360 for it.

ps. I have LSi 9s with Outlaw monoblocks connected to Rotel RC-1070 and i use Oppo DV-970HD for playing. sub is connected to 2nd output on Rotel w/ RCAs.

LSis, Outlaws, and Oppo were all recommended here !

Something that may help keep the peace with your neighbors is putting a slab underneath your sub. This helps decouple it from your floor and reduce some of the bass sent to the next apartment. Granite, marble, and sink cutouts from kitchen counter tops (fake marble) are all good.
