And I was going to say Monitor 5's.

I was too, but they are easily outlcassed (even modded versions) by almost all the speakers around the $1K pricepoint. My LSi's are so much better sounding in almost every aspect than my 5b's. Now if you are talking $500 or less the M5's and M7's would certainly fit into that segment, especially with the RD0's and x-over upgrades.

I'd have to say the Totem Rainmakers over the LSi7's only because of the bottom end of the Rainmakers. I'm looking forward to reviewing the LSi9's very soon, courtesy of Paul DiComo.

Agreed. I love my 5b's but as great as they are, Polk has made it hard to compete against the LSi series for the price, no matter the competitor.

I'll agree that the LSi9s are a wonderful speaker. However I would say that I've been most impressed with the Energy RC-10s in the sub 1k range. Amazingly smooth aluminum tweeter, and stunning low end extension for such a small footprint. Also the Cherry and Rosenut veneers are beautiful. I personally ran them off my SQ-88 tube integrated, as well as my Halo P3 and A23. Both setups sounded wonderful but, I defiantly preferred them on the tubes.

I would heavily recommend an audition to anyone with the opportunity.

Tweeter stores are closing all over. I could pick up a pair for $500 out the door!

Too bad no tweeters, that I know of, are closing in Houston. I remember when they stopped selling Mirage, I got a good deal on a set of Mirage bookshelves that were pretty impressive. Too bad Mirage left the "real" speaker buisness.

I'm gonna go with the B&W 602S3 as of yet...

I have to agree here. They cost under a $1K, crystal clear reproduction, and the imaging amazed me when I first tried them out. Plus they don't have that warm bias that all those Polk guys like...:p

Speaking of Lsi9s, I was at tweeter seeing if I could steal any last minute deals from their close-outs here in Dallas.

Anyway, they have the Lsi9s listed for like $649 and the LSi7s for like $479 a pair. Decent deals, but nothing special. However, I see a boxed pair of LSi9s on the ground marked sold and looked at the slip. Guy only paid $218 per each, so $436/pair. After tax, guy is still getting a brand new pair for under $500.

I pleaded with the sales guys there to give me the same deal, even just match that for some open/demo Lsi9s they had. No dice. They wouldn't play ball.

my buddy just picked up LSI9s (open box) and LSI/FXs (new) for less then 1k at Tweeter here in Boston area. and I got myself Martin Logan Dynamo for $360 new. I always liked Tweeter :)

    Lsi7s were $350

Those deals that ya'll are talking about at tweeter are unbelievable! I wish I had one near me because Martin Logan's for $360 is always great. I just checked out their website and they had good deals online too, but most of their speakers are only available for pick-up at the store. Sad day.

yeah. they are closing 2 stores here. one in Boston and one in Saugus. Boston store is already empty and probably already closed. Saugus might be open for other week, but i bet all LSIs are gone by now

So you think or give them the edge over the classic 3's???

The Classic Threes are a better overall speaker in terms of resolution/detail, imaging/soundstaging/dispersion, articulation, refinement, transient response, driver integration, and really, just about any kind of adjective you want to compare between the two.

However, IMO, the SB3 does hold 2 advantages though, one objective, and one subjective - it does have better and deeper bass extension (-3 db at 39 Hz! ), and I think it just flat out does rock music better. YMMV

Do you subscribe to stereophile? They just reviewed these in the July 07 issue, pretty sparkling review.

If we are talking new I would have to say LSi9 best under $1000

If we are talking used I would have to say Stone Image Audio Rothschilde A2s.

Hmm.... most impressive speaker for the money I'd say is the R15's, at $50 (no typo) for the pair. So shoot me, I'm happy with them!
