Thanks Mike, but I certainly learned a lesson about using PayPal. NEVER again.

Paypal is charging to upgrade to a Premier account, otherwise the seller can't receive payments to their account.

You can receive them without paying, you just have $500 a month withdrawal limit.

Sami, that isn't true in all cases. It was true of yours but not Mike's... even though a dollar is a dollar last I knew.

To accept Mike's payment, I had to either upgrade to a higher level account, pay a 2.9% fee - plus 30 cents - and provide their system with more financial information than I care to... or I could accept with my personal account, pay a 4.9% fee - plus 30 cents. Then I learned of the 500/month withdrawal limit which could be lifted if I cared to reveal more of my personal and financial information - which I will never do as I simply do not trust Paypal's system.

So I paid the higher fee and will wait a month, then pay them another $1.50 to send me a check.

Postal money orders seem relatively simple to me. And far less expensive.

Was it a CC transaction? You can't avoid fees on those as Paypal has to pay VISA/MC/AMEX/whoever, and they want their cut as well.

Yes, it was. I guess everyone has to make a living. ;) Their setup just seems a bit devious to me.

Are you guys aware of http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/838081/ ? Percentage has varied but it seems a way to save a few bucks.

If you "upgraded" your account, I think you're stuck in paying fees on all transactions, whether it from CC or bank funds. If you want to keep Paypal an option in the future for small transactions, close your current account once you have transferred the funds and open another. This way you can still accept bank funds without fees.
